Looking For A Turning Point
Psalm 119:59 New Living Translation
(NLT)
59 I pondered the direction of my life, and I turned to follow
your laws.
On Saturday, I had some errands to run, but I had a
miraculous event that occurred, my young adults decided to accompany me, while
I took care of business. I thought for a
moment, “oh no they are setting me up” for a “mom I need or can I have” moment,
but I was pleasantly surprised they just wanted to hang with their dear old
mom; this I must admit is not abnormal for my daughter, but my first born son,
well that is a different story.
Surprisingly enough the day was smooth as silk and not once did I have
to give the “it’s almost Christmas don’t ask” speech. They actually just wanted to give me a
glimpse into the mysterious world of the young adult. As we were on our way home, we were in the middle
lane of a three lane parkway, and my son who was in the front seat noticed his
favorite high end fast food Mexican restaurant, and utter its name. Feeling in a place of euphoria to just have
some quality time with my young people without drama, or having had to beg for
it, I said “well you should have said something earlier before we could have
eaten dinner there, I haven’t had you two out with me in a minute.” My son immediately responded to my daughter
who was driving “turn around”, she replied “I can’t, how can I. I am in the middle lane, duh.” I laughed, at signs that the peace between
these two I had experienced all afternoon may be ending. I calmly suggested looking for a break in the
traffic, getting over and finding an intersection that she could turn around to
go in the direction that we wanted to go.
Needless to say eventual that happened, and all was well in the young
adult world and peace again had been restored.
When we got home I thought about how in our walk with the
Lord, sometimes we miss the turn that God wants us to take. He wants us to be on a different road because
He wants to bless us, teach, us, or sometimes just give us a place of rest, but
we are focused on what we know the journey to be and we miss God. Sometimes the noise from our lives is so loud
we don’t hear God as He quietly whispers instructions to us to get out of the
lane we are in and turn. But the
wonderful thing about how roads are constructed is that they have points where
we are able to turn around and go in the opposite direction or change directions
to go where we may desire to go; I am blessed to say that in our journey with
God it often can be identical. We may
have to keep going for a little while before we find a place to get out of the lane
we are in and turn around but it is possible.
Often it just takes us a moment to look at ourselves and finally hear
God’s voice and we know that we have to get to where God wants us to be, but unfortunately
it is not always convenient nor are we in the right place to do so. We have to keep seeking God and focused on
turning it around as soon as our road permits and as soon as God affords us
opportunity to do so.
Don’t get discouraged when God shows you something that
you are not in the right lane to get to today, or something you may have missed.
Keep in mind that your road will have an intersection that will allow you to
turn around and reach the place that God intends. Consider the Children of Israel, they passed
their place of promise many times during that 40 years, but they were able to
get to it as soon as God saw they were ready.
Stay the course do not panic and switch lanes without looking, don’t swerve
in the way of things that can hurt you, harm you, and do more detriment than
good trying to get to a place of turning around. Evaluate yourself and seek God’s wisdom, He
is faithful and He will show you a way an intersection that affords you to turn
around and go in the direction He desires without harm. But with peace and
blessing!
