Climate Changes Can Produce Environmental Changes
Matthew 7:24-27 Amplified Bible (AMP)
24So everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts upon them [obeying them] will be like a sensible (prudent, practical, wise) man who built his house upon the rock. 25And the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them will be like a stupid (foolish) man who built his house upon the sand. 27And the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell--and great and complete was the fall of it.
Yesterday, I had my day mapped out. I was fully engaged early and on the move at 6:30 am. My intent for my day was to get with my God daughter and to take care of a list of things and tie up some loose ends concerning some matters at hand. But I came down with one of the worst migraine headaches I have had in some time that ultimately landed me in bed. But I have a unique situation that affects me, concerning these migraine headaches that I have been plagued with since I was eleven years old. Over the years as doctors have attempted to pinpoint the cause, I have undergone many tests, but it wasn’t until I was living in Okinawa Japan that I had a neurologist that asked had I ever logged the headaches to identify when they were the heaviest. I did as he requested I had little idea what he was trying to find, but when I bought in my log after months of recording, He identified extreme changes in the weather and the barometric pressure during those times when the headaches were at their worse. Interesting, I thought amazing that I am 1 out of some 10,000 people who get migraine headaches are affected by the trends of the weather. As I pondered that this morning I began to think how the trends of our lives, the climatic changes affect how we live and even how we serve, praise and view God.
I cannot tell you how many times that I have seen people turn from God when things in their lives become tough, the trends in their lives are turbulent and they do just what happened to me yesterday, they go down and out. They can even begin to blame God for what is happening around them. They are removed from service, they find themselves not being able to accomplish the task at hand or even just what is considered normal or their daily routine. They allow the pain of those moments to take them from the presence of God and out of His protection. They shut down and forget that to go it alone is worse than to stay in the presence of God. I have seen when all is well it is easy for people to stand because the storm winds are not surrounding them, and the rains of trial are not pelting them, it is easy to do service and accomplish life and our service to God seems like cake, when all is well or there is money in the bank and we have a job and a spouse. The question is when our climate changes for the worse do we allow it to take us down and out, do we crumble and disintegrate in our relationship with God and the call that He has placed in us. Will our praise end and our worship be lost or can we still stand and say, with a strong and sincere voice though you slay me Lord, yet will I trust you. This is not easy by any means, but when we hold tight to God it becomes a bit easier, because our focus is not on the storm, but on the fact that the storm will end and who is our shelter.
The end of last year and the beginning of this year the climate in my life changed drastically. It was a harsh cold turbulent season that changed the landscape of my life, even with my wrestling with God I found how vitally important it is to stay in the presence of the Almighty, to worship, praise Him and do His will even when I did not think surviving the storm was possible. It was and has become evident that the storms will come and the winds and rains will be overwhelming at times, but to hold onto to God and to stay anchored in Him can assist us in standing up to and through the storm. God is the stabilizers that can help us make through any climate changes and any pressure changes that occur so that we do not become a casualty of the changes occurring around us. Do the climactic changes take you down or do you have yourself anchored in God enough that no matter what the weather you understand the SON is shining and He is able to see you through and give you the strength to continue in your service and your worship?
