Don’t Let The Wrong Words Follow You
Matthew 12:35-37 Amplified Bible (AMP)
35 The good man from his inner good treasure flings forth good
things, and the evil man out of his inner evil storehouse flings forth evil
things. 36 But I tell you, on the day of judgment men will have
to give account for every idle (inoperative, nonworking) word they speak. 37 For
by your words you will be justified and acquitted, and by your words you
will be condemned and sentenced.
Many years ago, my mother came home
with revelations that lead her to no longer call deviled eggs “deviled but
angeled” and she no longer made statements like “you are killing me, or I love
you to death.” I first I did not
understand her rationale. We had spent
all of our adolescences and some of our young adulthood making these statements
and calling these things just that, but now she wanted change. She began to explain to us that powerful
influence that words have in our lives that we did not even realize. Being a teacher she raised us, not to use “can’t,”
because she said it was a cope out and all things were possible with effort and
perseverance, but now she was taking this confession, talk thing to a whole different
level. She had come into the knowledge
that the words that we speak not just influence our lives but follow us, and
she thought it important to speak what was good and surround us with what was
good.
I heard a story some twenty years
ago or so that a young man, regularly uttered the words that his parents had
died early and that he did not intend to live passed thirty five, and he did
not. Some will think this is
extreme. But as I began to understand the
Word of God better it is clear, that His word makes it plain that we give words
power in our lives as we speak them; whether they are negative or
positive. Our words do not just leave
our mouth and it is that simple. When we
speak we provide breathe to our words which causes them to now have life, just
as when God breathed into man and made him a living soul. Proverbs 18:21 tells us that we give our
words power to provide life or death and whichever one we give them, we will
eat of that fruit within our lives. I
heard Oprah say many years ago that what we give the universe it gives back;
well I don’t agree it is that simple, I believe that it is the words that we
give life to that carries back to us what we have spoken. Have you ever noticed when you have not felt
good, but the moment you allowed those words to escape you lips you felt worse?
It is because we give those words power to provide us with what we have
spoken. Many of us do not provide
thought to our words we just say things, with no thought for how it may affect
us or others, but those words once said have the power and the authority that
we have given them to produce good ( life) or evil ( death).
Before we allow negative things to
come out our mouths as it concerns, our circumstance, our health, our finances
or our life or the life of another we need to think about the what type of
power we are giving these words and what are we giving them authority to
manifest within our lives. Are we giving
way for something to be over our lives that is good or not so good; something
that produces life, of produces death, destruction or despair? Don’t let the enemy of your life become your
own words, don’t allow the thing in your life that trips you up and cause you
to fall be the words that you and I speak.
Think with new eyes, positive eyes, and speak with the same mind and
heart; one that is true, worthy and will breathe life you’re your life and the
will of God for your life, in order for what is god to follow you and abide
over your life!
