Bitterness Will Sour Your Blessing
Genesis 18:22-26
Genesis 18:22-26
22) The other men turned and headed toward Sodom, but the Lord remained with Abraham. 23) Abraham approached him and said, “Will you sweep away both the righteous and the wicked? 24) Suppose you find fifty righteous people living there in the city—will you still sweep it away and not spare it for their sakes? 25) Surely you wouldn’t do such a thing, destroying the righteous along with the wicked. Why, you would be treating the righteous and the wicked exactly the same! Surely you wouldn’t do that! Should not the Judge of all the earth do what is right?”
26) And the Lord replied, “If I find fifty righteous people in Sodom, I will spare the entire city for their sake.”

As I sat to write this devotional tonight I had an entire different revelation of this scripture. I immediately assumed God wanted me to write about the feelings Christians get when we feel betrayed by God. When we question “How God could bless others who WE know are not serving and worshipping Him.” I was ready to go, when the Lord asked me what qualifications are needed for Him to bless someone. He asked why we as Christians feel God needs our okay or input before He chooses to bless someone.
I recently went through a very long and difficult divorce. I was praying, fasting and doing all the “right things”, but God was pouring out blessing after blessing on my ex. I was so confused, frustrated, and angry. I wondered if God had somehow confused the two of us because we shared the same last name. I cried many of nights asking God what He was doing. Why did he feel the need to punish me after everything I had already been through? But it wasn’t until I stopped crying over what I didn’t have and started rejoicing over what I did have, that I realized I benefited from those blessings.
In the above scripture God was willing to spare an entire city if he could find just 50 righteous people. How many people are being spared simply because you are in their life? How many people are being blessed because they are connected to you? God will raise up your enemy right in front of you, and in a blink of an eye He will have them place the Keys of the Kingdom in your hands.
Some times God blesses people because of who they are to Him. Some times God blesses people because of who they are connected to. But sometimes God just blesses people because He can. Because He is God and He can do what He wants to do with His stuff. We do not know an individuals personal relationship with God no matter what we feel we know about them. Each of us has to answer to God for our actions, so let’s rejoice in each others blessings, and leave the judging and punishing to God. Had Hillary Clinton known Obama would one day hold the key to her future, she probably would have run an entirely different campaign. We have no idea what God is setting up for us in the spirit, but if we allow ourselves to get side tracked, we might miss out of the greatest blessing of our lives.
