What Is Your Confession Saying About You?
Hebrews 4:14-16 Amplified Bible (AMP)
14Inasmuch then as we have a great High Priest Who has [already] ascended and passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession [of faith in Him]. 15For we do not have a High Priest Who is unable to understand and sympathize and have a shared feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities and liability to the assaults of temptation, but One Who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning. 16Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God's unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it].
My grandmother and my mom as we were growing up, use to say “you will have what you say.” I used to think they are just saying that. But as I grew older and as I matured in the things of God I learned that this is as true of a fact as ever. Have you ever noticed when you say I am tired even when you are only a bit tired you seem to all of a sudden come to the point of exhaustion or it seems like with every step you take tiredness comes down on you? Have you ever noticed that when something goes wrong in your life and you focus on it and say can things get any worse, that is when the hell hounds are released and things get much worse? It works in the opposing way as well, when we make the comment that I am determined to have a good day no matter what, and we stay focused on that, we do, no matter what happens, it doesn’t seem to bother us as much if not at all. When we say I am confident that it is all working out, and then we seem to be surprised when it does; why are we, spoke it into existence.
Our confessions do three major things, first they give us something to focus upon, and they give us a point of reference. The second thing they do is they release whatever spirit is behind the words that we speak into the atmosphere. The third thing is it gives our words power and authority within the realm that they are spoken. The Bible says in Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].” What we choose to confess is choosing the spirit of life or death over our situations, it is choosing to birth or crucify everything from our health to our dream and finances. It is a sad testimony to who we are when we are constantly walking around confessing how awful things are and how horrible we feel and we are feeding in to the negative instead of the positive in our lives. Why would anyone want to serve a God that allows His people to suffer like that Many of us are associating and hanging with people who are negative and they confess negatively and that spirit rubs off on us. We have a choice of what it is that we receive in our lives, by the words that we speak the people we associate with and what we believe about our lives. I am not saying that there will not be days when we have turmoil, and pain in our lives, and that it won’t be hard to confess something other than what you see and feel, but visualize yourself where you need to be and speak to that, and not to how you feel and what you see in that moment, remember it is your words that make you overcome and the blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Don’t let the words of your mouth and the meditation of your heart be anything than acceptable in God’s sight. Don’t let your words become the very thing that damages you, or kills your dreams or your spirit. Speak life to yourself, your dreams, your life in general, don’t let the enemy or people steal, kill or rob you of anything more than they have. Confess God’s promises and His very best over your life, for it is yours, if you can be obedient and confess it to be so! Let this mind be in you that is also in Christ Jesus! If your mind is Christ’s, your thoughts will be the same and your confession should be as Christ would want and your life will become what He has ordained!
