Hello All. Today I would like to start a series I call “Message in the Music Mondays”. For the next couple of weeks I will write the devotional based on a “worldly” song. If God can use a prostitute, a whale, and a donkey to get a message to the world, I’m sure He can use a few lyrics as well. To start it off is, Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror”.
Whose reflection do you see?
Whose reflection do you see?
Genesis 1:27 (Amplified Bible)
27) So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them.
27) So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them.
“Man in the Mirror” is such a deep and moving song. Its about changing the world, YOUR WORLD, by starting within yourself. It’s a song about searching your inner most parts and taking a true look at the real you. Its so easy for us to point out what’s wrong with everyone else around us, but it takes a real man or woman to admit to their faults, recognize a need for improvement, and then apply some actions to bring about a change.
Yesterday in church our Pastor asked us to look back over this year and see our harvest. He said that if you were counting your riches, houses, cars and things----- you had already missed it. The real harvest was the lives you touched. He asked how many lives did you bring into the kingdom. Had anyone who knew you, became a better person for no other reason than the fact they had you in their life? Did you add to or subtract from the lives God placed in your hands? Did you give back or only get yours in 2008?
It’s funny how we measure ourselves based on the way the world sees us and not by the one who created us. God has left clear instructions on who we are to be in His Word and we have lost sight of that. Men are no longer men anymore, and women are trying to play both man and woman. Men are suppose to be what Christ is to the Church. Her provider, her protector, her best friend, her savior; he is suppose to lay down his life her. Women are suppose to be the bride waiting on her groom, she is suppose to be his rib, his support, his greatest cheerleader. But somewhere along the way, men have learned to protect themselves and women have been taught to take care of herself and put a little something to the side. We are no longer trying to build each other, instead we are tearing us other down trying to get to the top.
If we don’t start to get back to what God has destined us to be, we will one day look into the mirror of our soul and not recognize the face staring back at us. Take these last few days of the year, and ask God to show you the areas of your life that you are lacking in, and then make a game plan to do better next year. Purpose in your mind that a year from now you will have been a blessing and not a curse in the lives that God has graced you to be apart of. Let’s live our life in 2009 so that the reflection looking back at us in the mirror is not ours, but a pure image of Jesus Christ.
