Words Of Encouragement To Start The Day (Tuesday 10/27/09)

Today’s Devotional Written By The Inspired Heart and Mind of Tracy Koweh

Who Do You Look Like?

Mark 10:13-16 (Amplified Bible)

13And they kept bringing young children to Him that He might touch them, and the disciples were reproving them [for it]. 14But when Jesus saw [it], He was indignant and [a]pained and said to them, Allow the children to come to Me--do not forbid or prevent or hinder them--for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 15Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive and accept and welcome the kingdom of God like a little child [does] positively shall not enter it at all. 16And He took them [the children up [b]one by one] in His arms and [[c]fervently invoked a] blessing, placing His hands upon them.

Its funny how a woman can carry a child for 10months, go through morning sickness, food cravings, mood swings, and labor pains………..just to give birth to a child that looks nothing like herself. Well, that’s my story. My daughter looks nothing like me, but if you ever saw Zubah, her biological father, in the street alone one day, you’d point and say, there goes Jaida’s father right there.

So fast forward to two years later. I’m now divorced from Jai’s biological father and in a relationship with a man who doesn’t even look like he could be Zubah’s fourth cousin. The funny thing is that several people have made the comment, “She looks just like her daddy”, when we are out doing the family thing. We just smile and give each other that look, because we know that they share no genetic ties what so ever.

But then it hit me this weekend. It’s the love they have one to another that makes people say that. It’s the way he smiles at her and the way her entire face lights up when she sees him. It’s the way she runs to him when she is hurt or the way his voice changes to console her. It’s the difference in how she responds to a command he gives her almost immediately, after repeatedly ignoring my requests. It’s the unconditional, unbreakable bond they have formed between just the two of them.

God showed me that this is how our lives should be. When we get cut off in the middle of rush hour traffic, talked about behind our backs, hurt on the job, kicked by someone we trusted, attacked in our bodies, and the list goes on……….we should respond in such a way that people are able to see who our Daddy truly is. They should see us turn to Him and not to anger, revenge or unforgiveness.

Today as we begin another day, let us make our Daddy proud. Let us strengthen and nurture an unconditional and unbreakable bond with Daddy. When people see you and how you live, let them part from you saying, “That child look just like they Daddy”.
