As You Would, Let It Be Unto You…
Philippians 2:3-4 (New Living Translation)
3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
For many years I have been blessed to meet and be infused into the lives of so many people. God has allowed me to become friend, counselor, confidant and intercessor for many. I count it a Blessing and a Privilege. But as a result of this I have seen many injustices and I have seen good people taking it on the chin for the past, misgivings, insecurities, thoughts and feelings of superiority, generational issues, and in some cases just plain meanness and maltreatment of others. I have unfortunately been the recipient of these events myself. Today as I encountered three beautiful people that were or had been maltreated by others, I sought God and asked Him why, it was in that moment that I realized that people who are often mistreating others, or have become judgmental, controlling or abusive, are first off being controlled by a spirit that is allowed dominance in their lives. Or because the individual in question has not thought that how they may be treating others will affect them in any way, shape or form. You see it is easy to treat someone with disdain, disregard or without thought when that person that you are mistreating is disconnected from you and nothing you do or say to them can affect you in anyway…That could not be further from the truth…
The Bible says, in Galatians6:7 “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” The thing that we do for and to others affects us. We may not think so, but it does. We may even think that we have the right to be mean to someone because they have made a mistake or wronged us (whether intention or unintentionally), but it is not our responsibility to “pay them back,” it is God’s he said “Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord,” ( Romans 12:9). It is not for us to do anything but to live a life that honors God, exhibits His laws, nature and character towards others. It is easy to lose sight of these things because we are so self absorbed and all we can see is me myself and I, we value our flesh more than we value the things of God and obedience to Him, so we never allow Him to heal our past, bring light to our dark places, or check us when we need it. We rather walk in pride than humility any day. But it is here that we need to realize that we are writing our own ticket, we are digging our own ditch, we are writing our own story and we are signing off to our own fate. You see when we mistreat, abuse, judge others this is what we will get back, it may not be at the hand of the individual that we have sowed that seed of discord into, but trust me when I say every thing flows in a circle and it will again return unto you.
Today let God search you and know you and if there be any thing within you that would bring pain to others, let Him deal with it, heal it, remove it, so that you can honor other and treat them as they are suppose to be treated, and so you will not become of victim of your own treatment toward others. In the words of Aretha Franklin, “you better think, think about what you are trying to do to me.” As Ciely said in the Color Purple said, “What you done to me is already done to you.” Do better do right by others, so in turn goodness and mercy will follow you!
