Words Of Encouragement To Start The Day (Monday 11/08/2010)

Today’s Devotional Written By The Newlywed Mrs. Tracy Dixon

Just Us?

Psalm 42:1 (New Living Translation)

1 As the deer longs for streams of water,

so I long for you, O God.

Today's message in the music comes from Bill Wither’s "Just the Two of Us". The chorus says: Just the two of us, we can make it if we try. Just the two of us, You and I. This past weekend we declared it Dixon holiday at our house and said that for the entire weekend we would be together as a family. It was actually our first weekend home since the wedding. The first time we were able to eat breakfast together and at home. It was the first time we relaxed and shut out the world.

It felt good to just take some alone time away together, and make our family a priority. We had literally been non-stop again since we returned from our honeymoon and it was already starting to affect Jaida to the point she was acting out. We had to come together and make a decision. We had to choose each other. We had to focus on the treasures God gave us within our four walls, and not the pressures and cares of the world around us.

As I began to look forward to the weekend to come, the Lord convicted me that I don't take the time to just steal away with him. That I never declared, a me and my God weekend, day, month or hour for me and Him to just hang out. Not that I wasn't spending time with Him, but that I wasn't making it something of a priority. It was something I'd get to before bed. Or something I'd do in the morning and check that box off. But do I really try to find time to steal away with God throughout the day, every day. When I'm on facebook for an hour with no stress or strain, can I put the laptop down and just chat with Jesus. Can I spend time with God, and not ask for anything, not want or demand anything but Him. His time, His presence, His spirit.

Today as we begin another week, let us make time for God. No matter what cares, stresses or problems arise, let us determine to show God how much He truly does mean to us. If we only would make an effort and try, God will meet us right where we are and show us that with Him, we can make it. Let us not get so busy trying to do for God, that we don't spend any real time with Him. This weekend was something we needed, and I'm just grateful we were able to set this standard in our home early in our marriage before it got too late. Don't miss the chance to hang with the greatest friend you'll ever have. God is waiting on us, can he just get a moment?
