Words Of Encouragement To Start The Day (Thursday 11/11/2010)

Going With What God Provides…

1 Samuel 17:38-40 (Amplified Bible)

38Then Saul clothed David with his armor; he put a bronze helmet on his head and clothed him with a coat of mail. 39And David girded his sword over his armor. Then he tried to go, but could not, for he was not used to it. And David said to Saul, I cannot go with these, for I am not used to them. And David took them off. 40Then he took his staff in his hand and chose five smooth stones out of the brook and put them in his shepherd's [lunch] bag [a whole kid's skin slung from his shoulder], in his pouch, and his sling was in his hand, and he drew near the Philistine.

I remember being a little girl that loved her Grandma’s and mom’s dresser and all its contents. I loved to try on wigs, shoes, hats and even dresses. To be able to use my mother’s power puff was one of my favorite things to do…It made me feel so grown up and as if (even for a little while) I was someone else, or at least a lot more grown than my actual age told. But the one thing was that no matter how much fun that was in that temporary space of time, there was still nothing like my own clothes; especially my footie pajama’s they were some of my favorite things to wear. They were comfortable and they suited me well. They fit me to a tee and they surrounded me with warmth and a sense of security. I was free to really be me in them and I was uninhibited. I did not have to worry about tripping over something too big, or having to adjust anything, because it was not mine, and it was not made to fit me. My PJ’s were all me.

For many of us, God has fit us with a garment, a place, a gifting, a calling, a place to serve in His kingdom, but instead of us wanting to be in that place that is suited for us, we want what someone else has. We want a position, a place, a calling, and anointing that is not fitted to us. The Bible encourages us in Proverbs 18:16 says, “A man's gift makes room for him and brings him before great men.” When we are trying to go in someone’s place, someone else’s garment, we are setting ourselves to fall, trip, stumble, and have on a garment that is not suited or fit for us, one where the call is too BIG for us, or one that is too SMALL than where God would want us to be. We risk being out of step with God and out of His will for our lives. When we seek God and allow Him to reveal who we are in His kingdom and what it is that He has for us to do, we are being fit into a garment that is tailor made for us. Our praise and our worship is that has been cultivated by our relationship with God. Our ability to fight the good fight of faith is strengthened by the fact that we have allowed God to build an armor that fits us and no one else. Why would we want to serve God outside of the area that God really wants us to be in, unless it is because we are envious, or jealous of someone in the kingdom, that is serving side by side with us, or we are Justin rebellion to God thinking He does not know what is best for us.

It is so much better to be in the will of God and allowing Him to send us to do His work, do battle in His name, to minister life in the garment that is made for us, and no one else. If we are in refusal to ask God what He desires of us, we may want to check our motives, and the real reason we desire someone else’s garment other than our own. It is safer, it is better and much more effective when we go out with what God provides us with instead of going out with someone else’s garment or worse yet a garment that we have tried to make for ourselves. Let God clothe us, protect us, lead, guide us and cover us, for the work and the battles that lies within the journey that He has ordained for our lives!
