Here Today, Gone Tomorrow…
Matthew 6:24-34 Amplified Bible (AMP)
24No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to the one and despise and be against the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (deceitful riches, money, possessions, or whatever is trusted in).25Therefore I tell you, stop being perpetually uneasy (anxious and worried) about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink; or about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life greater [in quality] than food, and the body [far above and more excellent] than clothing? 26Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father keeps feeding them. Are you not worth much more than they? 27And who of you by worrying and being anxious can add one unit of measure (cubit) to his stature or to the span of his life? 28And why should you be anxious about clothes? Consider the lilies of the field and learn thoroughly how they grow; they neither toil nor spin. 29Yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his magnificence (excellence, dignity, and grace) was not arrayed like one of these. [I Kings 10:4-7.] 30But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and green and tomorrow is tossed into the furnace, will He not much more surely clothe you, O you of little faith? 31Therefore do not worry and be anxious, saying, What are we going to have to eat? or, What are we going to have to drink? or, What are we going to have to wear? 32For the Gentiles (heathen) wish for and crave and diligently seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows well that you need them all. 33But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides. 34So do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own. Sufficient for each day is its own trouble.
I am learning so many valuable lessons daily about myself, people that surround me and my family. I have been able to do a lot of evaluating of myself and how I see the world and what has been, is and will be really important to me. What is becoming increasingly more important to me and what is driving me to go on daily. There have been times in my life when status and looking good was important. It was important for me to try to please people and be in their good graces, to glaze over things and take more than my share of mess from people and still smile just to say I had a friend even when I knew things that were being done were wrong. I valued being in good standing with people, more than doing, saying and living what was right.
I am forever changed. Don’t get me wrong I still love people very much and I hold those who hold me close very tight and in high esteem and I protect and love on them, with a fierceness. My focus will always be to do what is right by people, but I had to take stock of my life and ask some tough questions. People I have noticed are here today gone tomorrow, they are loyal to you when you are doing what they want, but I had to come to a place where I had to know it is better to do right and be right in the eyes of God and to take care of those who have been charged to my care, then to be okay with everyone. Those people assigned to us may be family members that I was born to, or they may be family members that God birthed me into. They may be people God placed in my life for a season, a reason, or a lifetime, but to cherish the gifts that He places there and to stop trying to seek the acceptance of the masses, is now what I have come to know as important, because the masses will say with one voice I have you and when you challenge them, their beliefs or the way they do business, they are gone. When you are up they are there to celebrate you, but when you are down they are nowhere to be found. You see my focus is who God wants present in my circumstance in my life and me in their lives. I am learning time once it is gone you can never get it back, so to live each moment with God’s will, love, compassion, and leading is the only way to maximize, the life we have been blessed with.
I watch as people take so much stock in the positions they hold and the accomplishments that they have gained, and trust me when I say I celebrate and encourage anyone and everyone to maximize their potential and God given gifts, but do it for the right reasons. Do it because you love to, and because it is adding to your life, the Kingdom of God and the lives of others. Be concerned with what concerns God, what is on His heart, not what make you look good in the eyes of many. Because as quickly as you have so many surrounding you they can be here today and gone tomorrow. Don’t take for granted your assignment because God has an assignment that is uniquely ours for a unique purpose to bless and to encourage someone somewhere that needs what He has placed in us. Stop worrying about people, what you have and what you look like to others; start worrying about whom you belong to and what He thinks of you and what you are doing for Him. My Grandmother used to say, “Only what you do for Christ will last.” All too often we think because we do what is good or what WE feel is right that we have pleased God but I have learned it is the surrendering of our lives, the completion of our assignment, it is how we treat people and how we represent Him in the earth that matters. So the question for today is how are you doing? Are you storing up where there is no rust, no diteration or waste or are you giving to things and people that are here today and gone tomorrow!
