You Never Know Who Is Watching
2 Samuel 11:2-4 New Living Translation
(NLT)
2 Late one afternoon, after his midday rest, David got out of
bed and was walking on the roof of the palace. As he looked out over the city,
he noticed a woman of unusual beauty taking a bath. 3 He sent
someone to find out who she was, and he was told, “She is Bathsheba, the
daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.” 4 Then
David sent messengers to get her; and when she came to the palace, he slept
with her. She had just completed the purification rites after having her
menstrual period. Then she returned home.
Have you ever thought about how many individuals
in your life time have made decisions about you just by watching you? Have you
ever thought of the fact that people are drawn to us or repelled form us
because of our actions, and many times it is because they have watched how we
have carried ourselves or acted? I have
had individuals come to me and tell me that they have observed me in varies
season of my life and had drawn conclusions about the type of individual I must
be or the strength I must possess. I have
had women and men alike relay to me that they have watched me and how I handled
seasons in my life and even the manner in which I worship and serve God, and
have treated others. Observation is a
powerful tool, that we underestimate and often disconnect its use.
We are being watched, and the question we need to ask is,
when people watch me, what do they see? Do I represent the one that I say that
I serve well, or do I do Him a disservice? Do I bring His kingdom shame or
honor? We need to be aware that everyone
that watches us is not watching us looking for our virtue and the good things about
us or in us. Some individuals use
observations as a means to find out where our weaknesses are in order to breach
our personal space and the protection that God has placed around us. There are many reasons why people observe us,
just as there are many reasons why, we observe others. It is often that God has
allowed people into our lives because they do not know Him and we are the only
representation of Jesus that they have encountered in the earth, but instead of
encouraging their journey towards Christ, we discourage it by becoming an awful
witness for Christ and a bad representation of the Kingdom of God’s character
of love, truth, forgiveness, and positivity; instead we become a tool of judgment,
intolerance, unforgiveness and misused influence. We should desire to ensure
that we are living a life that is ultimately pleasing to the one who observes
us day and night. The one who we say we
belong to. Many times we forget when we
are stressed that we have the heart of the Father to watch after and just as we
don’t want our heart to be broken, we should not want to break His heart by our
behavior, our words and our life choices.
I
remember some years ago, there was a song by Rockwell, and the chorus said, “I
always feel like somebody’s watching me,” well in all honesty they are. People are watching you and you must learn to
discern the reasons why, do they mean us good or evil; or as my grandmother
used to say, are they on the Lord’s side or not? In addition and more importantly we must
represent our savior well, by knowing and understanding who He has called and
fashioned us to be, and to represent Him well.
But more important than even that is that we have a Savior that loved us
enough to die for us and to reconcile us back to His father, so that we could
be in right relationship and have eternal life.
We should desire to all that we can to represent our Heavenly father
well, and to bring honor to the family name.
We should desire to keep God’s heart well, and to love on Him daily in
the way that we live so when He and others watch they see a reflection of who
we say we belong to!
