Words Of Encouragement To Start The Day ( Monday 3/2/09)

Today's Devotional Is Written By My God Daughter Tracy Who Is An Awesome Inspiration

Soon As I Get Home

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (New Living Translation)

19)  Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20)  for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.

Tonight as I write this devotional I have to say it has taken on a total different meaning for me than originally intended. When I first heard God lay it in my spirit to use the song Soon As I Get Home by Babyface I thought it was about the future I had intended I’d be sharing with the guy who is thelove of my life. However, not less than an hour ago that guy is no longer in the picture. So I sat and asked God what did it all mean? He told me that that message hadn’t changed.

So many times in our lives the situation and circumstances we face may change, but God’s purpose and destiny in our lives doesn’t. I remember my pastor telling the story of Jonah and how his choices had lead in him inside of a whale’s stomach, but that when he was thrown out, he landed right back where he would have been had he just followed the voice of God in the first.

The song this week is about an old school man, a man that most say is almost extinct in our society- - -its about the provider. The man who wants to give his woman the world. He tells her that he will pay her bills, cook her dinner, buy her clothes, and anything else her heart would desire as soon as he got home from work. So last week as I sat and talked to God, he revealed to me that once we become a sanctuary or home for God to dwell in, that is what He will become to us. He will become our everything.

So many times in our relationships we go outside of our covenant to find the things we are missing instead of working on home. We think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, but we don’t realize that all we need to do is take the time to water the lawn we have already been blessed with.

God does not require us to be perfect, but there are some things He commands from us to keep our home clean. God will not dwell in the midst of junk, confusion, or disobedience. God will not dwell in a home where He is not wanted, welcomed or appreciated. But I’m so excited to be in love with a God who will cover me, love me unconditionally, and protect my heart as long as He has a home in my spirit.

Like Babyface in the song, God will give us any and everything that we could ever want, need or desire but we have to do our part. We have to love and accept God in such a way that He has no choice but to show up and show out in our lives. We have to make our home an atmosphere that is inviting, clean and a safe place to dwell. In the words of Dorothy, “There is No Place Like Home.” So let’s all do a self check-up and make sure there are no rats and roaches keeping God from dwelling in our home.
