Like Mastercard…….. True Love is Priceless
John 3:16 (Amplified Bible)
16For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten ([a]unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.
Last night I had the most interesting conversation with a male friend of mine. We were discussing Oprah’s show and Steve Harvey’s appearance as he spoke to woman of all ages, races and martial statuses. One woman on the show was saying that she wanted a man that was tall, had all his teeth (white and straight), could dance or be willing to learn, and the list went on and on, but the one that hit a cord was that he had to be a millionaire. My friend’s first response was “What was she bringing to the table?”
I must say that it hit a very sour note with me. Everything from the tone in his voice, to everything that could be taken from that comment. Is love measured by a dollar amount? Can you truly put a price tag on a relationship? Its funny to me that we will pay $50 easy for a night out at Applebee’s, or $20 to put our clothes in the cleaners, but for the one who cooks for us, cleans for us and looks out for us we give nothing but more demands. It’s so backwards that we pay a lawyer $200 an hour, a doctor $400 for a visit, but we can’t do the simple things for those who defend us, take care of us and bend over backwards for us all the time.
How much more does the mother at home teaching and training her children or making a home for her family deserve over the woman who is out of the house bringing home the bacon but doesn’t have enough time to fry it up in a pan? How do you determine how much a person is worth by the amount of money in a bank account? If a plane full of millionaires and homeless people all die in a plane crash, which ones are going to heaven? The ones who are children of God- - -plain and simple- - -whether they could afford a first class ticket or not.
I’m so thankful that God gives to us because He loves us, and not because of what we give back to Him, because we will never be able to match His giving. Lisa told me once that love is a lot like physics in that “opposites do attract.” In most relationships/friendships people bring different things to the table. All parties involved have different strengths and weaknesses that they bring, but by working together the unimaginable can be attained. If you threw a dinner party and everybody showed up with green bean casserole, how much of a dinner party would you have?
God loved us enough to think we were worth sacrificing His one and only son. His grace, mercy and love are available to each and every one of us. God sees our heart, not our yearly salary. If God sent you a bill for all of the services you received from a loved one, how much do you think you would owe? So before you measure someone’s worth by their financial status, take a moment to make sure you’re not losing something that is truly…………PRICELESS.
