Words Of Encouragement For Your Day (Tuesday 10/18/2011)

Today's Devotional Written From The Experiences and Heart of Tracy A. Dixon

Your Past Will Be Your Present and Your Future....If You Leave it Up to Them

Zephaniah 3:17 Amplified Bible (AMP)

17The Lord your God is in the midst of you, a Mighty One, a Savior [Who saves]! He will rejoice over you with joy; He will rest [in silent satisfaction] and in His love He will be silent and make no mention [of past sins, or even recall them]; He will exult over you with singing.

This past weekend I had a heartbreaking conversation with a teenager stuck in the middle of a custody battle. Her mother had made a decision that has now back fired and so she has set out to destroy this young lady's emotional and mental state. As I sat on the phone and heard the threats that had been made, I was completely shocked that a mother would use the scars and mistakes of a child against them in such a manner.

As she spoke, you could hear the hurt and fear in her voice. Her mother was going to exposure all of her dirty secrets in court. Her mother was turned from protector to predator in the blink of an eye. What was so crazy is the answer God gave me for her. It was to wipe her tears and fight. Not with evil intent but with facts. She has done a 360 since being removed from the house and that was what the judge needed to see.  She had not fornicated, ran away, rebelled or failed one class. In one semester she improved her grades, community service and her attitude.

I began to let her know that she was not her past. We have ALL made mistakes but its about choosing to learn from them. Some people don't know how to move on from the past, and they will do everything in their power to hold you to yours. But celebrate today knowing that we are made new in Christ Jesus. The most scary part about this situation is that the mother is doing exactly what the devil does. He tries to throw our past in our face every chance he gets. He tries to break our spirit, shake our faith, and cause us to doubt ourselves. But plead the blood of Jesus over every area of your life including your past, and walk into your new beginning with power and authority. They didn't die for your sins, so they can't keep them alive either.
