Drink Up

John 4:10-14 (New Living Translation)

10 Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.”  11 “But sir, you don’t have a rope or a bucket,” she said, “and this well is very deep. Where would you get this living water? 12 And besides, do you think you’re greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us this well? How can you offer better water than he and his sons and his animals enjoyed?”  13 Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. 14 But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”

Today I will wrap up the “Snake Series.” I am still amazed at how much God showed me through this process. I still don’t like snakes, but I have a different outlook on them, a new respect for them. Of all the facts posted this week, the last one brings them all home. Its time to let it out……………

Fact: Many snakes defecate after a successful shed, or consume large quantities of water.

The shedding process for a snake is not an overnight event. In fact there is a 1-2 week inactivity period………….reminds me of the Dark Years between the Old and the New Testament. During this time of inactivity the snake’s sight is even less visible than normal….. again reminds me of the Dark Years between the Old and New Testament. Now remember that one snake can go through this process 4 to 8 times each year. Has the snake realized that even though sometimes it may be dark, he can stand still (inactivity) because he knows that something greater is coming if he just waits and lets nature take its course..

Once the snake is completely done shedding the old skin he then does one of two things. The first is that he leaves a physical marking to let the world know that he has released all the waste and toxins in his body. He has cleansed himself inside and out. He has a new coat on the outside, and a clean “soul” on the inside. How many of us do a detox after a trail or storm to make sure that we have gotten everything out of us that we needed to? How many of us try to hold  on to a little piece of “who we were”, just in case we need to lean on it in the future if this Christian thing doesn’t work out?

The second choice the snake has is to CONSUME LARGE QUANTITIES of WATER. Oh my God. The Bible says that Jesus is the eternal fountain of living water. After we receive our new skin we should drink up as much as we possibly can. We have to fill the areas we have now made empty, or the hunger pains from the past will kick in and cause us to go looking for our old skin. After a natural detox it is very important to replenish the body with lots of water throughout the day, and the same is true for a spiritual detox. What good does it do for us to cleanse our soul, and then need to be admitted for treatment of dehydration?.............

So as we wrap up this series, let it out and then let God fill you back up.
