Mark 8:17-18 (Amplified Bible)
17) And being aware [of it], Jesus said to them, Why are you reasoning and saying it is because you have no bread? Do you not yet discern or understand? Are your hearts in [a settled state of] hardness?
18) Having eyes, do you not see [with them], and having ears, do you not hear and perceive and understand the sense of what is said? And do you not remember?
There have been so many times when I have been in search of a particular item, and I have been frustrated beyond belief because I could not find it. I have wrecked many a room or rearranged many a refrigerator in search of an item, a suit, a blouse, a book, a pair of shoes, or a set of keys. But in so many of these cases I have come to find out that these items were right there before my eyes and I had looked over them several times. When there should be a sense of relief in finding the item, I have found that it is overshadowed by the feelings of frustration for time lost and questioning myself "how could I have missed it?" In our haste, our focus is lost and we have the ability to see but our vision becomes skewed, impaired, or obstructed by our inability, rather than our ability or calm rationale.
Some one use to say you have the ability to minister to others but you can't minister to your own self. It use to anger me that they would make that statement but I understand that we both had sight with no ability to see. For me it was my lack ability to see that the word that I minister that brought life, healing and freedom to others could do the same for me. For the individual speaking the words, they lacked the ability to see that their role was to lift up instead of tear down and to cover instead of leaving me exposed. You see it is not just a one side event, blindness occurs in even in the most stable of people, even those that feel they have it all together, why because our lack of ability to see past of our biases, prejudices, preconceived notions, judgements, insecurities and any number of other issues that we may be carrying around allows us to see without really seeing. We can see the lack, but we miss the person. we can see the pain, but we miss the spirit behind the pain. We see the lack of love but we miss the soul emptied of love and trust. We do not look to the whys nor do we care to see what our part is in the healing. Jesus during His minister did not just minister to the people He ministered to the whole of the individual, the entirety of who He saw, because His sight enabled Him to see past the surface.
Today as you look around you see, with the eyes of Christ and a heart of compassion. See what is right in front of you, whether it is God's love and His word, or whether it is God calling you to be an active part of giving of His love and His word. Which ever it may be ask God to remove the scales from your eyes in order for you to really see. If God opens our eyes we will be able to see what is before us and so much more, have sight will travel!
