Today’s Devotional Written Out Of The Soul Of: Mrs. Tracy A. Dixon
No Secrets…He Already Knows
Psalm 139:1-7 (New Living Translation)
1 O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. 2 You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. 3 You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. 4 You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. 5 You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand! 7 I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!
Today's message in the music comes from Alicia Keys song, "Your Secrets". The first verse and lines of the chorus says: Lay your head on my pillow. Here you can be yourself. No one has to know what you are feeling. No one but me and you. I won't tell your secrets. Your secrets are safe with me.
When Shane and I went through pre-martial counseling, one of the first things we discussed was red buttons. Red buttons are something that no matter how mad we get at each other, we can't use it against the other person. The thing that’s so great about the red button rule, is that every persons red button is unique to them. The crazy thing about red buttons, is that the moment anger rises up, its the first thing you want to do or say.
A red button can be something from your childhood or past relationships, and a person can have several of them. A red button is not something advertised, or posted on social networking sites. They are personal and painful, and when you find a safe atmosphere to share, it can be a great relief. The problem however, is that we are all human and we all fall short at times, no matter how great our intentions or how strong our love.
But on this day, know that we all have a true secret place to turn, and that’s to Jesus. He is our rock and our shield. He knows us better than ourselves, but the Bible says we must confess with our mouths. Sometimes God is just waiting on us to tell Him the truth and nothing but the truth. The great thing about God, is that He already knows, and yet He still loves us. He knows about the affair, the abortion, the addiction, the pain, the lie, the abuse, and every other secret we try to hide. People are going to hurt us, disappoint us, and let us down because they are human, just like us.
So today do as the song says, lay your head on God's pillow and let it out. Let it ALL out. Don't let the secrets of your past, taint the successes of your future. God might just shocked you with His response. When you think He is about to give up on you, He just might be raising you up. When you think He is about to throw in the towel, He just might be increasing your capacity. When you think your last mistake was your last chance, He just might let that be test that begins your testimony. Trust God today. Release it and then release Him to deal with your hidden areas, and then let Him release you to share your story with others, so they can begin to trust in Him too!!!
