Your Love Is…Pt IV
1 Corinthians 13:7-8 (New Living Translation)
7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 8 Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever!
My mom and I were looking through a clothing magazine, a while back, and we were looking at some of the fashions. My Mom was remembering some of the fashions that she had worn in years past that looked very similar to these clothes we were admiring together. She made the comment that I have heard her make plenty of times before, which is “there is not much new under the sun.” No matter how many things seem to change they really remain the same. It is true that from Biblical times to present, the actions of man have not changed much, but the context and the severity in which things are done “seem” to have changed. But the one thing I can say with all seriousness and gratitude is that I am glad that God’s love has not, does not and will not change.
Unlike us who seem to profess love in one minute and seem to have misplaced it or laid it down in the next, God’s love does not change, it is ever present, ever believing, ever hoping, and ever enduring. It is not a feeling that weavers, it is an action and a choice that is dictated and mandated by the truth and essence of who God is, which the quintessential expression of love is. I say people are sometimes fickle and that they change like the wind, but God does not, nor does His love, it is steadfast and it is the driving force for who He is and the plan of salvation that was made for you and I. I am glad that God loved me before I was in my mother’s womb and with all of the mistakes, pitfalls and bad choices I have made, he loves me still; that has not change, nor will it! God’s love is the love that stands the test of time and withstands the pressure of being often one sided, and mistreated. His love stands up to ever test that we put it under and it remains unchanged and unmoved by what it sees, endures and lacks. God‘s love is the miracle that sustains us and give us new life. His love is the love that carries us from life to death and back to life again. God’s love will make its bed in hell if that is where we are, and it will stand through ever test and every trial and it still is love. It is not love that has faded, changed or been altered it is still the same strong, persistent love that it was in the Garden of Eden.
With God’s love being unchanged, and so consistent, can it be said that our love for Him is the same? No matter what we are praying for, if it doesn’t manifest the way we desire or in the time frame that we desire it to can we still lift our head and with full conviction tell the Lord that we love Him, with our whole heart and that our love won’t change? Does our love for God take a hit with everything that doesn’t go our way, or does it remain strong and a powerful life force within us that guides our decision making, our words and our living? Yes, we are flesh and blood, but when the Greater One lives inside of us, His love should abide there as well. It should be the element within us that is evident and that changes NOT!
