Today’s Devotional Writtne By One Yet Holding On: Tracy Koweh(soon to be Dixon)
Don't Let Go of God
Hebrews 10:35-38 (New Living Translation)
35 So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! 36 Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. 37 “For in just a little while,
the Coming One will come and not delay. 38 And my righteous ones will live by faith.[a]
But I will take no pleasure in anyone who turns away.”
Today's message in the music comes from EnVogue's song "Hold On". The chorus says: Hold on to your love, you've GOT to hold on. These words came at very strategic time for me. Although God has been good, God is always good, and He will always be good: I've found myself in a season of fighting to hold on. Not holding on to a person, a job, a thing or a blessing, but holding on to God.
As a Christian it has been a hard thing for me to watch the enemy rip through my life in certain areas and the lives of some very strong and devout Christian siblings of mine. Although I do believe beyond any shadow of a doubt that God is victorious in all He does, its puzzling to watch what appears to be the defeat of the kingdom.
But is it God? Sometimes the reason we lose the person, the job, the thing or the blessing is because we choose to let go of God, trying to hold on to other things. We slowly let go by letting distractions, situations, and people consume our time, money and mind. We began to read our word less, pray shorter periods of time and make excuses to miss a service here or there. We don't just up and quit on God, we gradually get there, but when His presence is needed the most, we've lost our grip on the One who can get everything back in order. Then we are frustrated and mad at God.
Today as you begin another week packed with new and old challenges, tighten up your grip on God, and begin to let some things and people go. I love that the ab lib at the end of the song says: have faith, just keep the fire burning at home in your soul. A fire kept lit, won't go out, so do whatever it takes to hold on to God and keep that fire burning strong in you, FOR YOU and no one else.
