Is He In For You?...
Proverbs 1:23-33 (New Living Translation)
23 Come and listen to my counsel. I’ll share my heart with you and make you wise. 24 “I called you so often, but you wouldn’t come. I reached out to you, but you paid no attention. 25 You ignored my advice and rejected the correction I offered. 26 So I will laugh when you are in trouble! I will mock you when disaster overtakes you— 27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster engulfs you like a cyclone, and anguish and distress overwhelm you. 28 “When they cry for help, I will not answer.
Though they anxiously search for me, they will not find me. 29 For they hated knowledge and chose not to fear the Lord. 30 They rejected my advice and paid no attention when I corrected them. 31 Therefore, they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way choking on their own schemes. 32 For simpletons turn away from me—to death. Fools are destroyed by their own complacency. 33 But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.”
My mom, my sister and myself were out with some friends about a month back, and one of our friends had purchased a new phone. This phone was highly technologically advanced and so we were going over some of the features on her phone. One of the features our friend did not realize was present was the ignore feature. When a phone call is coming in, you can ignore it, if you are not in a place to hold a conversation or the person on the other end is not someone in which you wish to engage in conversation with. They laughed at the thought of being able to ignore a phone call, because the person on the other end of the phone was not someone they desired to converse with. We all chuckled, at that thought. As I thought about that encounter last night deep down within I could hear, “how many times have you hit the ignore button on me, so now in turn I am hitting it on you?” Whew, what a thought. I had to be real and know that I had ignored some of the things God was calling for me to do, because they were uncomfortable. Then I had to realize that it was those times that may have produced times that I called and He remained silent.
All of us have been in a place where God has called to us, whether it was a call upon our lives, just a call trying to get our attention because we were lacking time with Him, or a call because He wanted us to do something, and we knew what it was or sensed the complexity of the task, and knew that it would challenge us emotionally or spiritually, so in turn we hit ignore. The thing we did not realize is when we ignore God’s wisdom, His leading and His direction we live with the consequences of that event. My mom use to say, when people would do us wrong, “in many cases they will need you before you need them.” I thought when I was younger that she was just being nice or that she was consoling me in some way. But I have found through living and walking this journey out that this statement is the truth. But it is more of a truth for us in our walk with the Lord. We always want to claim, obedience and submission to God but yet when He calls us, and it is something that does not taste good in our mouths, suit our agenda or it causes us to be uncomfortable, we rebel or just ignore it all together. God is an awesome God because He won’t just call us once He usually will call two or three times, before He leaves us alone. He is trying to allow grace and mercy to be over us, but some of us are just too stubborn or dumb to see it. Inevitable, we get into a place where we need God, and we need Him to answer, we need Him to respond, most times immediately and He doesn’t. Then we want to throw up our hands get mad, and act like God is not justified in ignoring us, when just last night, last week, last month and last year we did the same thing to Him and have been throughout our whole lives if we are being honest. We keep wondering why, God is not in for us now, well it is because we have not been in for Him. We have often chosen our own paths, so now He is letting us have at it, so we shouldn’t be mad, we just need to repent!
I want God to be there for me. I know I cannot make it without Him. I realize that His wisdom, His ways and His promises are better for me than the way I could ever make for myself. So when He calls I am going to answer, because I know I am going to need Him far before He is going to need me. I know that when my hands are over things inevitably a mess will occur, but He is perfect and so the thoughts, plans, purpose and promises for me are perfect as well. When He calls we need to answer, so when we call He will answer!
