Living My Life Golden…And Free

Psalm 119:31-32 (New International Version)

31 I hold fast to your statutes, O LORD; do not let me be put to shame.32 I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free.

Psalm 119:45 (New Living Translation)

45 I will walk in freedom, for I have devoted myself to your commandments.

Today as I sat and reviewed some of the events of my personal life, I could hear the song by Jill Scott, entitled, “Golden,” It reminded me of all the positive things that I felt as I took care of some long overdue items in my to do basket. This song talks about getting free and staying free. The verse that made me smile and reminded me that God is ever present is, “I'm holding on to my freedom, Can't take it from me, I was born into it, It comes naturally, I'm strumming my own freedom, Playing the god in me, Representing his glory, Hope he's proud of me, I'm living my life like its golden, golden, golden, golden, golden, golden.” What an amazing revelation that our freedom is tied to being reborn in the spirit, heart, mind, and soul, and that pulling on the originator who is the God in us produces His glory, and can produce God having His work manifested in us and Him being proud of us.

When I first met a sister friend of mine, her signature on all her email messages was “living my life Golden.” I remember thinking the first few times I read it “wow, that is a nice sentiment.” But as I began to see it more and more I realized it was a revelation, a declaration and a proclamation. First off as a man thinks so is he. If we have the revelation that we are bond, stuck instead of free we are. If we think that we are down instead of up, and that we are living in lack instead of abundance, that is what we will be living in, or continue to live in. We can also make the choice to give up our freedom to people that come into our lives and when we do, we begin to live in a place of bondage and we live less than what we would consider a stellar or golden existence. If we declare that we are free and that we are or that we are going to be living a life that is Golden we are more likely to be able to embrace the concept and move towards those elements in our lives. If we proclaim it to be so we are making a statement of faith and it moves us out of just talking about it but doing something about it. If we understood that faith without works is dead, a proclamation will move us, through the vehicle of faith, and into the realm of manifestation.

The Bible reminds us that “He who the Son sets free is free indeed.” Our ability to live free and stay free depends on our ability to follow God and let Him manifest in us, through us and all around us. It is hard to see how to get back to being free after we have been bound, but God can make us comfortable in our own skin by reminding us how fearfully and wonderfully made of Him we are. It is easier for us to accept freedom and abide there living a life that is good if we first understand who are the most important players in the game, that would be us and God. It is when we begin to understand it is far from pleasing everyone, all the time but it is about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and what He thinks of us and how He feels about us, all the time. It is then we experience a new found freedom that will even on our worse days make us feel like we are on top of the world because we understand who we are and whose we are. When our heart, mind, spirit and soul are free we can make good decisions because we are unguided by feelings and emotion, but by the inner working of the Holy Spirit and the voice of God. Today declare your freedom, take it off the shelf and let those words proceed out of your spirit and out our mouths to begin the work again of staying free and living a life pleasing to God and that will edify our spirit, soul, mind and bodies. Let’s live a life that shines just like pure Gold!
