Who You Fancy For?
Matthew 6:31-33 (New Living Translation)
31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God[a] above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
Today's message in the music comes from Drake's song "Fancy". The chorus says: Hair done, nails done, everything done, you fancy huh. The first verse is about him appreciating his woman for getting all done up for herself. She doesn't seem to care what the next man or woman thinks about her clothes, her hair, her nails or even her weight. She is taking care of herself to make the reflection in the mirror smile back at her.
How many times do we get fancy for the wrong thing and the wrong people? We get so caught up in trying to please this one and that one that we neglect our own wants and needs, but more importantly we disgrace God. We are so focused on trying to look like, walk like, and act like what people think, say and tell us we should be. We begin to neglect the gift that God gave the world when He created us.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to be attractive for the world to see, but it should not come at the expense of making your internal spirit grieve and hide from Christ. I learned in pre-marital counseling that I struggle with being a "people pleaser', and that if I didn't get it under control it would eventually take years off of my life. This past week of seclusion with my husband was just what the doctor ordered. I was able to focus on the things and first two priorities of my life. I was able to get fancy and not care what anybody but my God and my kingdom man approved of---- and it was a great feeling.
Today as we enter into a new week, let us work on getting fancy for God. The rest will come if we learn to just give Him what’s rightfully His, and not just what is left over. The ironic thing is that we spend so much time pouring and trying to please people that will never appreciate us anyway. If God becomes our most important and influential audience, the rest of our destiny will begin to fall in place.
