Words Of Encouragement To Start The Day (Thursday 12/02/2010)

Here One Minute, Gone The Next…
Luke 12:28 (Amplified Bible)
28But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today, and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you, O you [people] of little faith?
I was visiting my 91 year old God mother today. I try to make it a point every time I am in New York to spend time visiting relatives, especially her. As I sat and talked with her, at ninety-one years young she was expressing the fact that she loved children and she loved what they brought into her life which was motivation. She said they “keep you going“. At ninety-one she still volunteers at a daycare center feeding and helping out with babies. The joy that was written across her face as she spoke about the little things she did, helped me to focus myself and refocus once again things in my own life. As we talked about her work with children over the years and the satisfaction it brought her the smiles that were gracing her almost wrinkle free face were priceless. They reminded me to savor more of my moments especially with people who love me and people who appreciate my help, care and willingness to be there for them. She spoke of letting go of things that are damaging and hurt us, to find freedom in God and peace in His presence. To me this was the highlight of my trip. It was also a reminder that moments do not last, opportunities do not always present themselves over and over, and time waits for no one.
Today, do yourself a favor and stop sweating the silliness and savor the blessings of the Lord that are upon your life. Stop placing so much emphasis on things that are here today and gone tomorrow. When God blesses us it is relevant in and out of the realm of time and space. It is something that can make us smile right now but it also something that will add value to our lives and make us smile fifty years later. “When I think of the goodness of Jesus and all He has done for me my soul cries out hallelujah praise God for saving me.?” Recognize the blessing of life that you already have before you start complaining about all you do not have, appreciate what God has given, before we ask for more. Stop sweating the small stuff; because really it is all small!
As I came in tonight and sat down thinking about all I needed to do tomorrow morning before we left to return to Virginia, I began to worry, would there be enough time would I get it all done. Then I remembered the sweetness of the moments shared with a women that did not worry, because she understood God was with her and that He was the master of her fate and that He could and would supply her with all she needed to survive. A peace washed over me, and all that had been going crazy today and subsequent weeks seemed to adjust, and I remembered just who was in control of every minute of everyday of my life. That no matter what people did or did not do, what they said or how they acted I needed to savor the presence of God in my life and His purpose and provision for me. You see, I am learning that in one minute people will sing your praises and say that you are the best thing since sliced bread and then next they are willing to crucify you. The point is not to get caught by those moments, but by the moments that God allows; those moments that we can see His hands working through us to better someone’s life and bringing glory to the Kingdom of God. We are always sweating the small stuff, the stuff that is here today and gone tomorrow. But why are we not valuing the events that bring us joy and peace and have eternal consequences?
