I’m In A Fight For My Destiny…
1 Timothy 1:18-19 (New Living Translation)
18 Timothy, my son, here are my instructions for you, based on the prophetic words spoken about you earlier. May they help you fight well in the Lord’s battles. 19 Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked.
Last week as I prayed I had a heavy heart and some concerns that I had taken to the Lord, and all I kept hearing as I prayed was that I must fight for my destiny. The next day my brother sent me an email that he had written, and it said: “God Is Like a Good Corner Man: During the fight he fixes the little cuts, helps tweak the strategy and inspires you to keep going. Most importantly, he gave you everything you needed to win before entering the ring.” Immediately that confirmed those words God had given me in prayer. Then in church this past Sunday our Bishop’s 8:00am message title was “Destiny Has Demands,” I about fell out of my seat, for God had confirmed His word yet again. Often we know what God says, and what He has promised to do for us and through us, but we are waiting, for it to just manifest itself. We think that the enemy will just leave us alone to walk this thing out with God, with no hassle, no fuss and no opposition. But everything comes with a price, and I do mean everything. Nothing worth having is free nor is the destiny that God has intended for us.
When I think back to my labor and delivery with both of my children, it was a struggle, it was painful, uncomfortable and I had to fight against my own body and push passed pain to deliver my son and with my daughter I suffered a stroke bringing her into the world, but they are one of God’s greatest blessings in my life. Whenever God has sought to take me somewhere, whether naturally or spiritually, emotionally or in the realm of the supernatural, there is a fight, a battle that ensues. There is a war between my spirit and my flesh; there is a battle between the spirit of God within me and adverse spiritual forces. There is even often a battle between my spirit and my emotions and sometimes with those who surround me, because they do not understand or are a distraction. But the one thing that God is teaching me is that the battle is a part of our pursuit of destiny. The one thing we must realize is that God has equipped us with all that we need to be successful in the battle. He has given us His Word, the written Word and the precious promises that He has spoken into our spirits. He has given us His spirit and in and through His spirit there is power. He is before us, and He is our shield, but we must allow Him to be. You see the battle is not ours, it is the Lords, and understanding that, He is the one that has designed our destiny and He will never leave something undone, we need to enter the battle for our destiny understanding that God is going to see us through.
Understand that God has a plan for us, He has a purpose for our lives, but it is not something that will just come to us, we must fight for it. All of us for years have been saying what is for me is for me, well yes that is right, but you and I both have to go in and possess it, just as the children of Israel had to fight to possess the promise land, likewise we must fight to possess, our promises and our destiny. Do not be fooled that just because God said it will come easy, not so, but God will equip us to win and be victorious and possess our destiny and all that He has said that will be ours. It is time to get up and put on our armor, grab our weapons and hit the battle field, because destiny is calling and it is on the other side of the battlefield, beyond the enemy, and they only way to obtain it is to fight for it and drive out all in our path!
