Today’s Devotional Written By A Young Woman Who Values The Moments of Sweet and Learns From The Bitter…Mrs Tracy A. Dixon
Sweet or Bittersweet
Ephesians 3:16-19 (New Living Translation)
16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
Today's message in the music comes from Fantasia's song "Bittersweet". The chorus says: When I think about you, its bittersweet, its bittersweet. Guess, I'll always love you, its bittersweet, bittersweet. Saturday night our wedding photographer sent us all the final pictures from our special day. As I sat and looked through the different folders the memories brought back bittersweet memories for me.
See my wedding day was one of the greatest days of my life, but it was missing some very great people as well. (my grandfather, my biological dad, and one of my father in laws). I remembered all the excitement from the day, but I also remembered all of the drama. Looking at the pictures brought smiles and tears to my heart, and then I thought if God had days like this? How many bittersweet days were on my personal record book?
God loves us all to the point that He sent Jesus to die on the cross for us. Yesterday in church our Bishop asked did we have room for God in our lives. Did our schedules, agendas, relationships, commitments, and goals leave any room for God to spend some time with us? Does God have to go back to our childhood memories to find pure sweet moments with us? If God chose a random day from the past seven days would His memory be filled with tears of joy or tears of rejection, disappointment and frustration?
Today as we begin a new week, let us make up in our mind to be a sweet scent to the Father. Let Him think about us and remember a faithful child, an obedient will, a giving spirit, a honest heart, and a grateful soul. Let us not take God or His time for granted. Let us appreciate all that He is, so He won't have to guess He'll always love us, but He'll be glad He does.
