Destined Distractions

Jeremiah 29:11 (New Living Translation)

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Today's message in the music comes from the lyrics of the Christmas song "Do You Hear What I Hear". One of the lines in the first verse says: Do you see what I see? The past few weeks our Bishop has retold the Christmas story giving Mary her props for not snapping off when the inn keeper told them the inn was full. She, at nine months pregnant, after walking from one town to the other, never said a mumbling word. She simply went with Joseph to the barn to give birth to a son she never conceived to have.

For just a moment I put myself in Mary's shoes and tried to imagine the thoughts that went through her head. At first I thought she probably battled with feeling like she was losing her mind, but then it hit me. If no one in the entire universe believed she was a virgin, she KNEW that she was. That fact alone would have given her confidence in the fact that God was handling it all. I believe she kept going and kept it together because she saw her destiny. She knew what God had told her and wasn't going to let anything or anyone stop what God was doing through her.

Have you ever been in a situation that didn't work out the way you thought it should or the way you thought it was going to? Has God not shown up in the presentation that you were expecting? Have people given up on you, walked out on you or mistreated you and at the time you didn't understand why? But then one day you woke up and realized that God had come right on time. That God's way and plan was so much better than what you were expecting. Did you learn that those people were going nowhere and up to no good days, weeks, months or sometimes years later? Sometimes we fail to see the destiny in our situations, because we fail to include God in them. We fail to check in with the Father to make sure we are looking through His eyes at the situation. And sometimes we fail just because we don't take the time to hear from the Lord on what's next.

Today as you begin this last week before Christmas, look back and see the destined distractions of life. The things, people and situations who tried to make you lose focus. But then look at the shepherds in the field that God sent to say one line "an angel of the Lord said that we would find the Savior of the world wrapped up laying in a manger." Can you imagine the confirmation that swelled up in Mary at the moment? No matter how crazy the assignment may sound, God will always send you something to confirm that you are right on track. If He hasn't sent you a sign yet, maybe that’s a sign that He is not the author of your destiny right now.
