Who Do I Rely Upon Most?
Galatians 2:20 (New Living Translation)
20 My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
I was speaking with a friend today, and as they began to relay some things that had caused them to form a particular image about church, and being in church, I had to pause because my heart, grew a bit saddened because just like many of us, this individual’s image of church was hypocritical, because the people they knew that were in church did not look like Christ, speak like Christ, act like Christ or even deal with people or love like Christ. These same individuals that had been such advocates of church and being saved were the worse example and had caused this individual to formulate an opinion about the need for Church and the assembling together of believers. Most of us at one time or another have struggled with this same area, because we have relied most upon our five senses to evaluate the need for God and the need to go to church and do God’s will. Instead of leaning on God’s understanding we are leaning and depending upon our own understanding and evaluation skills to attach a level of necessity to God and how we seek, praise and worship Him.
The funny thing is that we don’t just stop there we carry it into most areas of our lives. We use our rationalization and our process of appraisal to tell us how we live, whether we should do certain things or not, and whether we should speak certain things or not. Instead of us (meaning the flesh), being crucified or lying dead in submission to the Spirit of God that should be within us and having dominance and preeminence over our flesh; we let our flesh and our soulish realm dominate our spirit and shut it down from having any say so whatsoever! Why do we think that something born in sin and shaped in iniquity should have control, authority and power over something that God designed, ordained and resides in? We have taken God out of a place of worship and authority and placed ourselves there. That is why many of us cannot see ourselves happy in the service of the Lord because we have been trying to find happiness and contentment in the service and satisfaction of ourselves. We reason and judge people environments or anything to include right from wrong through limited base that is tainted. Many of us judge and categorize things on what feels good now, and what benefits my situation as I see it now, now what would God want us to do, what did Jesus do nor what is the Holy Spirit trying to lead guide and direct us to do.
Why is it that we picking and choosing our situations, our future, our friends our jobs, our activities, and even our churches without prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving coming to God asking Him to give us clarity, direction and instruction in every area of our lives, from our responses to people, to our fellowship and submission to service to Him. If we judge by the Flesh we are going to yield by the flesh. But if we assess by the spirit of God and consult God our Father through Jesus Christ, then the Holy Spirit can bring the inspired answer and the revelation, that gives insight into the truth of what God desires of us. Let the flesh side of us take a seat, and let the spirit stand up and take His rightful place, as the one who leads us into all truth!
