Words Of Encouragement To Start The Day (Thursday 08/05/10)

Make Room For Daddy…

Jeremiah 3:20-22 (Amplified Bible)

20Surely, as a wife treacherously and faithlessly departs from her husband, so have you dealt treacherously and faithlessly with Me, O house of Israel, says the Lord. 21A voice is heard on the bare heights, the weeping and pleading of the sons of Israel, because they have perverted their ways, they have [eagerly] forgotten the Lord their God. 22Return, O faithless sons, [says the Lord, and] I will heal your faithlessness. [And they answer] Behold, we come to You, for You are the Lord our God.

About four years ago, my dad could no longer drive because he was declared legally blind in one eye. My father who was self-sufficient and a department head for years, a key note speaker and one who had established ministries and programs, was now dependent on someone else. At first it was very hard on him because he did not want to “put people out,” or feel as if he was not useful anymore. But we all had to learn that it was important to make room for him, for his needs, and just his desire to come and go and do some of the “normal” things that he did when he had the ability to drive. We had to ensure that He knew we loved him and that we had his back, just as he had done for us in days past. We had to put forth time and effort to ensure he knew and knows that he is valued.

All too often we do not put in the time and effort necessary to let God know how much we value and need Him. If only we could see that our life and our job and all the other things that we get so consumed with are hardly as important as making sure God knows how much we love and appreciate Him in our lives. We forget that without Him that the job, the home, the car, and the money would not be possible. Some of us are saying “well I work every day,” yes you do, but who gives you that ability to work and to receive wealth, God does. There is another key point about making room for God, that we don’t think about and that is so many times God is trying to get us somewhere or bring us to something and we are ignoring Him, neglecting spending time with Him. He is there waiting on us just to look in His direction and recognize who He is so he can give us the information or inspiration that we need to get us where we need to be. We wonder why God isn’t answering, because some of us only talk to Him when we are desperate and there is nothing and no one else to turn to.

God wants us to value Him, not for what He can give us, but for simply being God our created our Lord and Master. If we can’t see anything else we should be able to give Him, His props for giving us Jesus to pay a debt that we ourselves owed. Isn’t it time to really make room for God in our lives the way that He desires, no half stepping, no emergency service only, but purely created a place for Him and letting Him know how much we love Him, appreciate Him, and value Him. Let’s all make room for Daddy!
