Unteachably Yours…
1 John 3:4-10 (Amplified Bible)
4Everyone who commits (practices) sin is guilty of lawlessness; for [that is what] sin is, lawlessness (the breaking, violating of God's law by transgression or neglect--being unrestrained and unregulated by His commands and His will). 5You know that He appeared in visible form and became Man to take away [upon Himself] sins, and in Him there is no sin [essentially and forever]. 6No one who abides in Him [who lives and remains in communion with and in obedience to Him--deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] commits (practices) sin. No one who [habitually] sins has either seen or known Him [recognized, perceived, or understood Him, or has had an experiential acquaintance with Him]. 7 Boys (lads), let no one deceive and lead you astray. He who practices righteousness [who is upright, conforming to the divine will in purpose, thought, and action, living a consistently conscientious life] is righteous, even as He is righteous. 8[But] he who commits sin [who practices evildoing] is of the devil [takes his character from the evil one], for the devil has sinned (violated the divine law) from the beginning. The reason the Son of God was made manifest (visible) was to undo (destroy, loosen, and dissolve) the works the devil [has done]. 9No one born (begotten) of God [deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] practices sin, for God's nature abides in him [His principle of life, the divine sperm, remains permanently within him]; and he cannot practice sinning because he is born (begotten) of God. 10By this it is made clear who take their nature from God and are His children and who take their nature from the devil and are his children: no one who does not practice righteousness [who does not conform to God's will in purpose, thought, and action] is of God; neither is anyone who does not love his brother (his fellow believer in Christ).
My son who is at an age where he knows everything, perceives all things and he is the only one in the house where truth abides, can be funny, even hilarious some times, can be challenging to deal with sometimes and not to lose your Jesus in the process. A few weeks back I was correcting a behavior my son was exhibiting, and I was doing my mommy lecture thing as I do, and in the midst of my flow he says, “but mom I can see if this was the same mistakes and behaviors I had made before, but this was something different why are you so upset and mad about me”…Whew, I wanted to chock him, but God was speaking. It is right, in the moment in the core of my spirit I could hear, he is not unteachable, he just legitimately made a mistake, as all do.” I calmed down immediately and we talked through the issue at hand.
Later on that evening as I began to revisit that situation in my mind and the Lord spoke again and said, “there are people in the body of Christ that claim my name and imply that they are strong in the Lord and in the power of my might, but yet, they continue to make the same exact mistakes that they were making when they were they were making years ago. They are entering into the same areas of sin that they always have since before salvation or at the beginning of their walk with me.” I could hear that is what identifies an unteachable, untrainable individual. “It is their choose, to continue to live that way because they have not allowed me to enter in, they have only said that I am theirs but not allowed me to come in and take my place in their lives as Lord and King, Teacher and Guide.” You can imagine my surprise when God began to reveal His heart in this area.
So many of us, think that because we have said the sinners prayer, and that we pray, read our Bible, go to church and claim Christianity that we are indeed Christians and we are His, but it was in that moment that I realized that we are not. We have entered into a place of having a “FORM” of godliness, but we deny the power thereof. We are in refusal of being taught, the ways of Christ, because we have refused to allow the Lord of Host, the King or Kings to come all the way in and take up residence. Oh sure we pray hard when we are in trouble, or when things seem off for us, but where is God when we are using profane language, having sex out of wedlock, or shacking up day in and day, or when we are mistreating people just because we can, or being unforgiving, vengeful and downright hateful? God is not and can be a part of that, and He is far from wanting to be, especially when this is who we are and who we choose to be in spite of saying we have Him in our lives. When we choose to keep living a life the way we want to, talking the way we want to and acting out the way we want to, we have enter a state of being unteachable, and if we stay there long enough we can become repubate.
It is time to humble ourselves at the mighty hand of God, and become as the clay upon the potter’s wheel, pliable, workable, teachable and conforming to the hands of God and His divine will and purpose for our lives. We need to get in a place where obedience to God is who we are and the way we choose to live. For some of us it has been so long that we have lived this way that we have convinced ourselves that God knows our heart and it will all be okay, but let the truth be told today, it is not okay, and we are continuing to cause separation between us and God. We are sending Him a strong message that we are going to “do us” at any cost, even if it cost us, Him…Go does not want us on our terms, He wants us on His terms, and He wants us ready, willing and able to be taught!
