It's Our Anniversary

2 Corinthians 9:15 (New Living Translation)

15 Thank God for this gift too wonderful for words!

Today's message in the music comes from Tony, Toni, Tone's song "It's Our Anniversary." Yesterday, Shane and I celebrated our one year anniversary. For the couple who normally goes above and beyond in the love department, we opted to only go to dinner together---no gifts allowed. As the day carried on and there were no exchanges of gifts, cards or flowers, I was able to really ponder all that had occurred in the last three hundred and sixty five days.

For the first time in my life, I had said lets take away the material side of something and stuck with it. I had never truly understood couples that said, we don't do all of that on holidays and special occasions, and since Shane and I show love all year long, I was not lacking in any way, shape or form. I believe so many times in our life, we allow the balloons, candy and presents to become the focus of the meaning of the moment. I remember opening birthday cards to see if something would fall out, before reading to find something to lift me up.

As I sat in the car on the ride to the restaurant God told me that He gets treated the same way. Some of us love Him all year long, on good days and bad. When He blesses and when He rebukes. But there are some of us that only call Him on big days, when we are sick, broke, going up for a promotion, or need a miracle. Some of us have not gotten to a place where we can just celebrate who He is, for who He is and not for what He can do. We have not matured to the place where we can just sit and dine with Chirst and not expect a gift, a card or a bouquet of flowers to come at the end of the meal.

Today as we begin another week, let us celebrate God with our time and pure hearts. Let us not use Christ as if He were a line of credit, but let us appreciate and praise Him for being our direct line to the Father. Everyday with Christ is an anniversary, because He allowed us to live another day, which is a year from that day the year before. Look at how far God has brought you since last year, and give Him some praise right now!!!!
