Words Of Encouragement To Start The Day (Tuesday 02/08/2011)

Giving Way To The Future…

Philippians 3:12-14 (Amplified Bible)
12Not that I have now attained [this ideal], or have already been made perfect, but I press on to lay hold of (grasp) and make my own, that for which Christ Jesus (the Messiah) has laid hold of me and made me His own. 13I do not consider, brethren, that I have captured and made it my own [yet]; but one thing I do [it is my one aspiration]: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,  14I press on toward the goal to win the [supreme and heavenly] prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.

One thing I had to learn is that it is impossible to go forward while I am looking back.  It is also one of the most difficult things to hold on to events, people, pains and accomplishments of yesterday and have an expectation that our todays or tomorrows will be better or more solidified than they are right now.  The only way to make room for new things is to clear out some old things.  Just like when we want to go shopping, or want new shoes, one of the first things we should be doing is getting rid of things that are just taking up space and have out lived their usefulness.  Many of us are trying to fit new things in with the old things and we are finding that the closet is overflowing, it is overwhelming and it is becoming chaotic, because of the disorder that is starting to form.  It is long overdue for some of us to let the old go and allow the new to enter in; a new way of thinking, acting, viewing, evaluating, forgiving and loving.
Many of us want God to have to wade through our old mess, behaviors, activities and thoughts to get to us and bless us.  Some of us are just out and out fighting God trying to keep Him from blessing, or moving us.  For others of us we can’t seem to get over how well we once were doing and how our life just seemed to be all that we needed it to be and wanted it to be, so it is hard to imagine that it could better, or better could come along.  But God wants us to make room for Him, and let Him in.  He won’t rollover us, or force His way in, He will only ask, knock, and He has already sought us out in our state of being lost.   We have a responsibility to answer, open and allow ourselves to be found. God has so much that He desires for us, but all too often we get in His way.  We block Him from releasing the flood gates of blessings, wisdom, understanding, compassion, love, joy, peace and elevation into our lives, because we are trapped by our past whether it was good or bad, great or awful.  Release yourself from what was behind you to allow God to become the center of your life and for Him to begin to usher you into His presence and His favor.  We have to forgive those who have hurt us.  We have to understand that those events that have scarred us, should serve as a reminder to how God delivered us and how what did not kill us only made us stronger, and gave us another opportunity to get it right.
Giving way to the future is as easy as clearing a path.  It is as easy as saying yes, it is as easy as opening a door, it is as easy allowing our heart, our minds and our spirits to be open realizing that , to move forward we have to release ourselves, others and things so that we can walk without tripping or being distracted.  That we can clearly see without being blocked, or blinded.  It is about realizing that really if I trust God; all things are going to work out for our good.  If we move out of the way and let God do the leading we won’t get lost. It is time to realize that if we push out a lot of that old stuff that is outdated and not useful anyway and if we open up our minds, my hearts and our spirits that we will have room for God and room to receive all that He intends for our lives. Ask yourself this question, do I want to give way to the future God has for me or stay stuck to my past? Only you really can answer that!
