Words Of Encouragement To Start The Day (Friday 07/02/10)

The Closer I Get To You…

Psalm 73:27-28 (Amplified Bible)

27For behold, those who are far from You shall perish; You will destroy all who are false to You and like [spiritual] harlots depart from You. 28But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God and made Him my refuge, that I may tell of all Your works.

Hebrews 4:15-16 (Amplified Bible)

15For we do not have a High Priest Who is unable to understand and sympathize and have a shared feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities and liability to the assaults of temptation, but One Who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning. 16Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God's unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it].

I remember a little over a year ago my daughter went a youth ministry moment sponsored by her girlfriend’s church that was held at a skating rink. I dropped her at the event and went home. About 11pm, my phone rang I had one foot in the bed and wondered who could be calling…when I answered the phone all I could hear was hysterical crying. I called my daughter’s name to no avail. She was trying to tell me something but she could not get a hold of herself long enough to do it and I was not near her to be able to calm her fears or hear through her sobs. Eventually her girlfriend’s mother got on the phone and relayed that my daughter had fallen and they thought her arm was broken. I threw on clothes and my sister drove me to the skating rink, I prayed hard all the way there. When I arrived and I was close enough to make a difference, she began to calm down some and I was able to soothe her fears and let her know that I was there and that all would be well. When we reached the hospital and I was able to let her lay on me and hug her I was even able to make her laugh, even through the pain and I was able to get her to almost forget the severity of the event, for moments at a time.

If we only realized, how important where we are in reference to where God is can make all the difference in the world and in our lives. If we draw near to Him, He will definitely draw near to us. He can touch us, with His mercy and save us with His love. He provides for us and protects us. When we press into His presence He can make us forget the pain, He will bear the weight of our situation and even carry us when we need to be. We draw near to God we can feel His heart beat and He can feel ours. He can speak words of comfort and security to help us live as He would desire. We learn Him and He is able to impart to us all that we need to live and overcome daily. Drawing near to God allows us to feel the comfort and healing virtue of His garment, and to cast off all that has held us captive to obtain a freedom and a peace we once lacked.

Coming close to God affords us a source, a force, strength, abilities and security that we do not have being a far off from Him or not connected to Him at all. He gives us the ability to survive and the ability to grow and to be in a place free from what we encounter daily living in this world. If we abide in Him and He in us, it is then that we can bear fruit, stay safe and receive revelation, knowledge and love that is beyond our human understanding and comprehension. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you!
