The Spirit Of Reflection…
2 Corinthians 3:17-18 (New International Version)
17Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
Today is my birthday and every year around my birthday I reflect on my life and where God has brought me from and through. I also look at the areas of growth and the accomplishments in my life and the things that I know still require work and seeking God’s face to change. I look at my abilities and inabilities, my mistakes and the things that I have done with excellence. I look at my areas of obedience and my areas where I have had to repent for lacking obedience. I look at who God entrusted me to help and intercede for and those who have had to stand in the gap for me and why. But the one area that undoubtedly brings me to tears each year is the review of my walk with God. I reflect upon His faithfulness, His love, His mercy, His truth and His saving and delivering power that has worked in and through me over my year and the subsequent years. I reflect upon my submission to His request and how it has changed my life and ultimately the life of others. I reflected on the many disappointment and the many blessings that have come. But I see all of the lessons learned in these years, and what I should be getting from them.
All too often we are so caught up in what the new year will bring, what this new milestone will produce, and what we want from God, that we forget to be grateful for what we have come through. We forget to take a moment and do a review of ALL that God has done. When we can see as we reflect that the spirit of the Lord has been present we know that freedom and a place of safety has been present. As we have been able to see God more and more in our time and our years passed we can hopeful see our transformation into His likeness and more into His image. As we reflect each year I hope to see more and more of a vessel for His glory and not a vessel of my own. As I reflect my prayer is to recognize the increases in my obedience and my faith and that I have had to be pardoned less. As I reflect I hope that I recognize my worship is more of a way of life and less of a position assumed.
No matter whether it is your birthday or not, how much reflection have you done? Have you looked over your life to see where you have grown in God and been increased in your spirit, mind and soul? Look over just the last week, what is it that you see. Are you standing still or are you fully engaged in forward motion? Have you learned the lesson you need to in order to get you where God wants you to go? It is time to start allowing the spirit of reflection to rest with you, so that you can see where you have come from, where you are, and where God is ordaining you to go.
