Who Are You Running To?
Psalm 119:30-35 (Amplified Bible)
30I have chosen the way of truth and faithfulness; Your ordinances have I set before me. 31I cleave to Your testimonies; O Lord, put me not to shame! 32I will [not merely walk, but] run the way of Your commandments, when You give me a heart that is willing. 33Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes, and I will keep it to the end [steadfastly]. 34Give me understanding, that I may keep Your law; yes, I will observe it with my whole heart. 35Make me go in the path of Your commandments, for in them do I delight.
My daughter was relaying a story to me yesterday that had quicken in her spirit and got her attention. The day before yesterday my son stepped on her dogs paw, and although my son bent down to comfort her, Sheba (my daughter’s very pampered Pomeranian) ran not to my son, but to find my daughter and to climb in her lap to be comforted. My daughter said mom, “Sheba could have ran to anyone to be comforted but she ran to me.” Then she said something that I was not expecting, she said, “mom why is then when people are hurting, confused or in a bad place they run to other people and not to God.” Wow little Girl was all I could think…out of the mouths of babes...
All too often we self soothe. We want to put people, things, events in the place of God to help us to feel better…We don’t run to God and rush into His presence, His Word, His will, we run right into the arms of a man, a woman, extra hours, even church. But we don’t seek Him out to find to heal what is really ailing us. WE mask the real issue with new situations people and circumstances… We do not take the time to allow God to work on us, heal us deliver us and make us to know that there is safety and love that transforms in Him alone. We all too often are trying to close an open wound with a Band-Aid. Or we are putting a topical ointment on something that requires oral medications to heal us completely and transform our lives to be in a place to be able to move on properly. We run to people thinking that they can really love us past our pain and help us put the past behind us, when in actuality that is God that does that, and when He does it, He does it completely and He leaves no bruise unhealed, He stops the bleeding completely and He teaches us in the process and restores us.
Ask yourself in my times of trouble, who am I running to? What captivates me when pain sets in? Who am I relying on when things go wrong? To many of us are relying on things that are eventually going to prove themselves to be a sorry replacement for what we really need which is God! Go to your Father let Him, His Word, His precepts and His love keep you and heal you… Let them be the thing that we find ourselves delighting in and finding rivers of healing water!
