Today’s Devotional Written By A Young Lady Speaking It Loud, and Strong: Mrs. Tracy A. Dixon
Does He Regret the Cross?
John 15:13-14 (New Living Translation)
13 There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command.
Today's message in the music comes from Trey Songz hit single "Can't Be Friends". The chorus of the song says: And I wish we never did it. And I wish we never loved it. And I wish I never fell so deep in love with you and now it ain't no way we can be friends. In the context of the song Trey is talking about a friendship that went to the next level and then was destroyed. The chorus is him regretting ruining the good thing they had, over a moment, over a temptation, over a choice they made, and now they can't even go back to where they use to be.
As I listened to this song and thought about some of the things done last year, I pondered if sometimes Jesus sung this song. Yes, I know God is a forgiving God, but for one minute lets play what if. What if Jesus is up in Heaven looking at some of us "Christians" and saying He wishes He never did it? He wishes He never died to save us. He wish He hadn't ended His life to give us the freedom to mistreat our children, become homosexuals, be the biggest hypocrites this side of Heaven. He wish He hadn't lived a holy life so we could hide our faith in a closet at work, praise Him on Sunday morning then commit adultery Sunday night. He wish He didn't have to keep forgiving us over and over for the same thing. He wish He didn't have to beg His father to give us one more chance so we can have another baby out of wedlock, or kill one to cover up our sin.
Today as we enter into the first week of the New Year, let us not make Jesus regret the cross. Let us choose to be either on fire or on ice. Let us not let one moment, one temptation or one choice separate us from the love of Jesus. Let us choose gratefulness over selfishness this year. Let us choose holiness over hypocrisy, and let us choose loyalty to the kingdom over laziness to God. Jesus didn't have to do what He did, but He did it because He first loved us. As long as we have breath in our bodies we are fortunate enough to be able to always turn back to Him and unlike humans, you can be His friend again. Don't take His grace for granted this year.........I got a feeling His supply is going to cost a lot more this time around.
