Are You Prayed Up And Thinking Up?
Colossians 3:1-3 (Amplified Bible)
1IF THEN you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, thus sharing His resurrection from the dead], aim at and seek the [rich, eternal treasures] that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth. 3For [as far as this world is concerned] you have died, and your [new, real] life is hidden with Christ in God.
Colossians 3:1-3 (New Living Translation)
1 Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. 3 For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.
I had a conversation with a mom today that broke my heart, but unfortunately for me I understood all too well where she was coming from. She asked me what do you do when you have beautiful children and they are doing all they know to do that is right; they are going above and beyond. They come to you with a request and because of certain circumstances, (ie: doing it alone or with minimal help) you have no way to fulfill that request. My heart was torn, but the one thing I could give her was to be prayed up and to look up, to know that she was in a place doing the best she could with what she had. I encouraged her to think of that God was able to help her through and supply her needs...
All too often we get caught in the place of discontent and a place of living in a moment instead of realizing that all that we do, should have thought and prayer applied to it. That we should not undertake a life that is focused solely on the here and now only; I know that it is hard not to see, what goes on around us, or often be affected by it, but we have to begin to see that our reactions and our decisions are based more than on what we see, or our resources. If our life is hidden in Christ our thinking should carry us to a place that encourages us to pray and to consult God when we are faced with challenges, and difficulties, but not just then, but we should be seeking Him daily, asking Him to guide our footsteps and lead us in our daily lives. If we become conscious to place God first and to acknowledge Him and seek His wisdom and guidance, we will think beyond today, and we will think about how what we do affects our eternal circumstance. For many of us thinking beyond a moment is not something we have trained ourselves to do. We do not think of how what we do affects others, how we act, how we live, or who we hurt. We have what someone I know calls tunnel vision…We are so focused on us, we never stop to even think of God and what He feels about how we act or react to things. For others of us we think about God but it is after we have stressed ourselves to death or worried over a situation. He is the last thought on our list, instead of our first prayer on our knees.
Are we prayed up to face that crazy boss, that unexpected circumstance or that disappointment. Have we asked God to be out in front and lead the way? Have we asked Him to place a guard by our mouths and to pull down every thought that does not acknowledge, or glorify Him? Have we asked Him to give us peace to see beyond what we can see naturally to His unlimited supply and into His presence where there is fullness of joy? Live with the thought that really only what we do God’s way will last and all I do I want to do to please Him. So I will seek His wisdom, walk in faith and abide in His unfailing love daily!
