Words Of Encouragement To Start The Day (Monday 01/17/2011) Happy MLK Day

Today's Devotional Written By A Loving Sister who Gives of herself freely! Mrs Tracy A. Dixon
Are You in Slavery Still?

Colossians 3:2 (Amplified Bible)

2And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth.

Todays message in the music comes from the title of En Vogue's song "Free Your Mind". On the day that we celebrate Dr Martin Luther King's legacy, the words of his "Free at Last" speech prompts many questions in my spirit. The most profound is, are we really free even so many years later? Not free from slavery as an institution, but slaves to our own mind. Are we our own worst enemy.

The Bible says to think on things that are holy, good and pure, but we as people (human race not one ethnic group) are focused on our house, our car and our bank accounts. We as parents have become consumed with our dormant dreams, our personal goals and are leaving our children on the back burner. We as a society are focused on sport players personal lives, reality show dramas, and what appears to be a failing economy. We as employees are focused on our crooked bosses, our pending paychecks, and our job stability. We as Christians are focused on where our tithes are going, which preacher is living wrong, and which choir sounds the best.

The other day on facebook a teen asked, how do you sleep in peace in a house full of drama. I told her the answer was by keeping her mind on Christ. You can live in a drama free environment and be tormented if you let your mind take you there. This year let us begin to clear out the junk and cobwebs that are in our mind. As we are still trying to hold on to new years resolutions and keep our body healthy with gym classes, our diet healthy with eating better, and our spirit healthy by going to church, let us add maintaining a healthy mind by renewing it daily.

Today as we celebrate the man who blessed us with "free at last", let us truly live those words by following En Vogue as we begin or continue the process to "free our mind". You will only go as far and as high as your mind will take you. The world and the Bible agree that a mind is a terrible thing to waste. But in the spirit, the mind is a dangerous thing to leave unattended. An open and WILLINGLY mind is a devils playground!!!! Has he been playing you lately?
