Words Of Encouragement To Start The Day (Monday 06/07/10)

Today’s Devotional Written By A Young Woman Who Is learning To Shake The Devil Off: Tracy Koweh

Shake It Off

Matthew 15:13-14 (New Living Translation)

13 Jesus replied, “Every plant not planted by my heavenly Father will be uprooted, 14 so ignore them. They are blind guides leading the blind, and if one blind person guides another, they will both fall into a ditch.”

Today's message in the music comes from Mariah Carey's "Shake it off". The song is about her cutting a guy loose because she has gotten to a place of realizing he is not good for her. His connection to her life has become toxic. She can see that he is playing games with her heart, mind and emotions and that he doesn’t appreciate her value in his life.

The other night on facebook, I was reading over conversations that my old high school classmates had posted earlier in the day, and I commented to Shane that I had realized I didn't have many friends anymore. Not in the sense that I don’t have "friends" on my page, but in the sense of actual meaningful connections with people. After reading some of the things posted and talked about, I recognized that I wasn't really missing out on anything at all. At first my flesh started to mess with me and make me question my calling, but then I looked around at my life and saw the hand of God all over me.

When I finally ran dead into the wall with no where to turn but to God, everything started to fall into place. What I first saw as a dent in my social life, soon focused into a clear distraction in my spiritual life. Some may think it’s strange that God has isolated some of us, but it’s because most times people are in the way. Too many people mean too many opinions, too much advice, too much "what I would do", and too much noise trying to drown out the voice of God. Jesus didn't hang out with anybody but God and his disciplines and even then it was about Kingdom business. I believe Jesus knew that everyone couldn't go where God was taking Him, and that everyone smiling in His face didn't want Him to get to His destiny.

As we begin another week, let us take inventory of the company we are keeping. Are we hanging out with people because we knew them in middle school, our grandmothers swapped recipes, or because of their status in the world? Are we connecting to people that push us into our destiny or farther away from it? Do we align ourselves with Kingdom keepers or Kingdom reapers? Today begin to shake off dead weight that may be holding you down. It’s not the quantity of people in your circle that makes the difference, it’s the quality. Everyone won't be able to understand, accept or rejoice with all God is doing in your life, don't get mad, get free. Shake em off and let God get you yoked up with some Kingdom connections!!
