Before Me There Is A You…
Psalm 16:7-10 (Amplified Bible)
7I will bless the Lord, Who has given me counsel; yes, my heart instructs me in the night seasons. 8I have set the Lord continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. 9Therefore my heart is glad and my glory [my inner self] rejoices; my body too shall rest and confidently dwell in safety, 10For You will not abandon me to Sheol (the place of the dead), neither will You suffer Your holy one [Holy One] to see corruption.
Today when God gave me the title for this devotional I thought it was going to be written one way, but as the day’s events progressed, I realized God was going another way. As I meditated and studied over the past six months I began to think of how God usually sent someone before someone that was the real focus. Before Jacob there was an Esau, before David there was a Saul, before Boaz there was a Chilion, before Esther there was a Vashti, Before Jesus there was a John the Baptist, and many others. There is always someone that goes ahead to set a standard that God intends to elevate and raise, with His chosen person. Many of us are looking around and we are seeing people God before us, and we are thinking we are left out, or forgotten, but the question that should be asked is who have we set before us. Who goes out before us, are we looking at a man to set the standard or is it God?
Today, as my day began, it seemed as if things kept coming at me in one form or another. But it made me think of this morning’s time of intercessory prayer, when God came in and arrested that moment to say that He was about to lop off the head of the serpent and judgment was beginning with us (the house of the Lord first). That people that had placed their mouth on those who seemed unqualified He had placed His hand and spirit on them and had qualified them. He was about to place people who had been playing at church or that were double agents on display just like a scene being displayed on stage at a play. I began to press into prayer throughout the day, reminded that this was an all or nothing season, a put up or be shut up season. We have to realize it doesn’t matter who got the job before us, or who got married before us, or who received their healing before us, or who God delivered before us, it is about who we choose to place out in front of us, and who is God’s ultimate choice. When we place God as the one who has the position of lead, he causes our life to be the life that He uses as an example and to bring His kingdom Glory and to expand, and elevate the standard that those who came before may have set or laid the foundation for.
Who do you choose to be before you today? Do you choose to see who is getting theirs or do you choose to focus on God and to press into His presence and not be moved by who is or is not getting theirs? Look at who has gone before and rejoice realizing that it is you, your life that is the one that could be the kingdom standard and not just the standard set by man. Know that if you have chosen God to be your head, your lead that you can be the one He has chosen for elevation and that produces those greater works that Jesus spoke about. God out in front is more than the world out in front or up against!
