Submitted To God?
Proverbs 5:12-13 (Amplified Bible (AMP)
12And you say, How I hated instruction and discipline, and my heart despised reproof! 13I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers nor submitted and consented to those who instructed me.
My mother use to say “a hard head makes a soft behind.” My Grandma James use to say “Obedience is better than sacrifice.” There have been many times in my life that I can admit that I let my emotions get the best of me. That I did things because I was hurt, uncomfortable, scared, panicked or even sometimes angry. My responses in these times were all me, all, human, all flesh all the way live. Not one bit of it was God and nor could I even try to justify or say that He inspired these responses or conduct. But many of us do, all in the name of the Lord, we say, we are lead to do things, or that God spoke into us or He allowed us to see, just so we won’t have to deal with our emotions and put our flesh under subjection.
The question that came to me today, is who are we submitted to if in one minute we are directing our life and the lives of others under the inspired word and will of God, and in the next, we are an emotional wreck, wreaking havoc on the masses. Who are we submitted to if we don’t take the time to pray about our next move, what we think we are seeing, how we think or assume we are feeling? Who is in control if we are in a state of wavering moment to moment, hour to hour day to day? Yes it is common place to have moments of doubt or fear, but when we are battling with the same issues and the same people in the same areas, have we really submitted these issues, circumstances and emotions to God. Have we asked God to really show us ourselves in a way that reveals what the real issues are and who the real issue is? In many cases the answer would be no, because it is always easier to say someone else has a problem than to deal with our own state of mind and being. When we lack the ability to really submit who we are to God we can place ourselves in a posture of thinking that nothing is going on with us and everything is going on with those around us. We can think we don’t need God to create in us a clean heart and renew a right spirit within us because we assume we are already there. My motto is there is always room for improvement, and the day I hit perfection I will be with the Lord.
We have so many issues with submission because we think that submission places us in a place of weakness, but I tell people all the time submission places us in the exact opposite place. When we can submit we are strong in God and in resolve. We know that it is in our fleshly and human weakness that we are made strong when we submit to God, not just in some things but in all things. I know people that stop speaking to people not because it had anything to do with God but because their own emotions, insecurities and issues got to them, but yet when asked why they will boldly declare God instructed me to let go, or pull back, when in reality that is a decision we have made all on our own! We little more consulted God about it than a dog meows. There are so many things that we don’t want to submit to God because we understand that it will cost us something and that something is US…and our ability to control situations. It will mean that we will have to do things we do not like, and that we will have to do when it is uncomfortable and when we don’t want to. It also means that we will have to allow God to deal with us first and foremost and check our emotions.
The Submission of all that we are is better the sacrificing God’s anointing and His grace and favor over our lives. So stop being a hearer and declarer only and do the word, live the word and allow the word of God to resonate within every area and aspect of your life, to bring about correction, rebuke, reproof, and instruction. We are supposed to submit all we are to God in order for it to be established, approved… So can you honestly say you have gotten God’s Okay on the things we do and say?
