Free At Last…
1 Peter 2:16Amplified Bible (AMP)
16[Live] as free people, [yet] without employing your freedom as a pretext for wickedness; but [live at all times] as servants of God.
Today’s message in the music is by Debra Cox and the song is called “Beautiful U R.” The song is powerful when you listen to it in its entirety but there is a line that hit me, like a ton of bricks and caused me to really think. The line says, “There's much more to life when you free…That's the key…And in time…You will find all the answers.” This past semester I was working on my Master’s level thesis (dissertation). I have to say that this had to be by far my toughest semester; I was challenged in my writing, in my research abilities and in my overall ability apply APA format to a research paper that had more moving parts than I care to talk about. I had been stretched and exhausted. Last week I handed in my final draft of my paper, I breathed a sigh of relief but still I was not free from this paper, I still had the PowerPoint to do and to wait on the grade. Well this weekend I handed in my PowerPoint presentation and I received my grade. It was in that moment that I looked at the grade assigned to my paper and understood that I had successfully navigated this course with the help of the Lord, that and I felt a freedom. My body relaxed and I felt as if I had turned a corner.
It is so funny that all too often we are holding on to things, people and situations that keep us from becoming free and entering into a new place that allows us the freedom that we would otherwise be unable to achieve. We find ourselves embodied by a place a task or an individual that has us bound, but God is trying to give us a way of escape but instead of us turning in that last assignment or giving it over to God we are holding out. We are in refusal to see that the only thing keeping us from freedom is our willingness to submit and surrender all to Jesus. Some of us as I have been for the last eleven weeks, are overwhelmed and overwrought by something, we know exactly what it is but we are scared to let God deal with it and for us to take our hands off of it completely so we can enjoy the freedom and the rest that we need so badly and actually deserve. Some of us are so use to being in a fight we cannot see it any other way. All we can imagine is struggle so even when God says it is finished we keep yet holding on to mess, situations and people that we should have turned in a long time ago.
The battle is not ours it really is the Lord’s. God has provided a way of escape, He has given a word and He has said it is finished enter into my rest, but some of us cannot handle the truth of the situation and that is God said it is time for us to live free and let Him eradicate all that is detrimental to our well-being. We are long overdue to live in a place of freedom; a place that affords us to eliminate the drama, and all of the junk that has tried to plague our lives and hold us in a place of negativity and despair. Let Go of it, come out of it, release it and totally take your hands off of it. To get free you have to actually take the shackles off. Some of us are standing there with the keys that God has given us right in our hands but we refuse to bend over and take our freedom. But if we are allowing whatever it is that has us to still hold us in bondage, then we are trying to serve two master and we all know that we cannot do that because one we will love and the other we will hate and we will always be a servant and never into the place or rulership and headship…It is time to take the shackles, the handcuffs, the gags off and get loose from some things and some people…It is long overdue for you and me too!
