It Is Not What We Have But How We Use It…
Matthew 25:14-28
14For it is like a man who was about to take a long journey, and he called his servants together and entrusted them with his property. 15To one he gave five talents [probably about $5,000], to another two, to another one--to each in proportion to his own personal ability. Then he departed and left the country. 16He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he gained five talents more. 17And likewise he who had received the two talents--he also gained two talents more. 18But he who had received the one talent went and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money. 19Now after a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. 20And he who had received the five talents came and brought him five more, saying, Master, you entrusted to me five talents; see, here I have gained five talents more. 21His master said to him, Well done, you upright (honorable, admirable) and faithful servant! You have been faithful and trustworthy over a little; I will put you in charge of much. Enter into and share the joy (the delight, the blessedness) which your master enjoys. 22And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, Master, you entrusted two talents to me; here I have gained two talents more. 23His master said to him, Well done, you upright (honorable, admirable) and faithful servant! You have been faithful and trustworthy over a little; I will put you in charge of much. Enter into and share the joy (the delight, the blessedness) which your master enjoys. 24He who had received one talent also came forward, saying, Master, I knew you to be a harsh and hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you had not winnowed [the grain]. 25So I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here you have what is your own. 26But his master answered him, You wicked and lazy and idle servant! Did you indeed know that I reap where I have not sowed and gather [grain] where I have not winnowed? 27Then you should have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received what was my own with interest. 28So take the talent away from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents.
My daughter and my son are very different personality types. My daughter is a saver of sorts and my son is a spender. My daughter has purpose in her spending and in her saving. My son likes to have what He wants in the now. My daughter usually is the lender and gets roped into loaning her brother money for his little expenditures once he has exhausted his funds. My son rarely has extra money. My daughter is always trying to improve her craft and improve how she does business. My son is cautious in all his doings and will stick with what works. They utilize their talents and resources in a very different way. They could get the same amount of money but the way in which it is utilized is vastly different.
During my life I have heard all sorts of things from people. The thing that has amazed me most is the amount of excuses that people utilize for not doing or getting things done; especially as it relates to what God has given them to do or called them to do. They say I can’t because I don’t have a lot or I don’t have anything to bring to the table. We always have something to bring to the table, but it is about what we do with what we have. For many of us, we are undervaluing ourselves, the giftings and callings upon our lives, our contribution and even our worth. We have chosen to see how little we have; we say that the glass is half empty instead of half full. So we sit on what God has entrusted us with and we think we are doing the world and God a favor by hiding our talents, callings and gifts under a bush, so we don’t misuse it or bring shame to it. We think because we are not as talented or as proficient that are gift somehow is worth less or less valuable to God, the body of Christ and those in need of what we possess. If we understand every gift is from God we would not just utilize it we would ask Him to lead us where our gift makes room for itself, and show us how to fully maximize what we have. Most of us neglect to understand if we can be faithful in the little things in the talents that we view as small and maybe insignificant as we see it God will open up venues and arenas for us to possess or have an audience with many. He would also bless us with more.
God is calling us out, what is it that we intend to do with what we have? We are always complaining about what we don’t have but yet we are doing nothing with what we do have, we are not utilizing what God has given us to the fullest. We want God to stand up and take care of business for us, but yet we sit down on Him and what He has blessed us to possess and be caretakers for. It is time to get off of our rusty dusty and do, make use of and activate those beautiful gifts those valuable talents and those needed callings, today, not tomorrow or next week, but today, someone is waiting and in need of YOU and what you and only you can bring to the table!
