Come On Get Real…
2 Corinthians 13:5-10 (New International Version)
5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test? 6 And I trust that you will discover that we have not failed the test. 7 Now we pray to God that you will not do anything wrong—not so that people will see that we have stood the test but so that you will do what is right even though we may seem to have failed. 8 For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth. 9 We are glad whenever we are weak but you are strong; and our prayer is that you may be fully restored. 10 This is why I write these things when I am absent, that when I come I may not have to be harsh in my use of authority—the authority the Lord gave me for building you up, not for tearing you down.
All of us have been to a physician at one time or another. The craziest thing is most of the time when we go to the doctors they ask us so many things that we can basically give ourselves a diagnosis. We are advised to do more self- examinations in this day and age than ever before. We can use the World Wide Web to research our symptoms and come to grips with what we may be suffering from. We can even find medications to take or to suggest to our doctor. Even with all that we are encouraged to do, and all that we know to do and have at our access, we still can walk around, diseased, sickly, hurting and our bodies out of order and never address it, because we are in fear of what we may find, or what a physician may even come up with. It is moments like these that we are in refusal to be real with ourselves.
The physical man is not the only place we walk around ailing in and in denial over how we are really doing, our soul and its status is another area. We can live a certain way for so long that we are in refusal to address the issues at hand. Some of us are just not mature enough to look at ourselves in a way that allows for or affords any criticism. Others of us have been living in a state that says we are God’s but we are in a place where we have one foot in and the other foot out, where we are startling the fence. Honoring God with our mouth sometimes and opening ourselves up to say and do anything we feel that we are big enough and bad enough to do. I have said before that it is the popular thing to say that we are Christians without having to be bothered living the life. Christianity is like a piece of jewelry it is that accessory that we put on for show in certain settings to make us look better or appear to be more acceptable, or what people may be looking for. But the truth of who we are will always surface. We can shout from the roof tops all day long that we are a Christian, but it is our sin sick actions and activities that often take center stage and tell the truth of who we are.
Who are we really fooling; certainly not God, and to some degree we are not fooling man either. Many of us should be wearing a sign that says this is not the real me, the words of my mouth and the actual meditation of my heart are different; they aren’t really acceptable in God’s sight. We should want to get real, for God is real with us, our desire should be to do the same for Him and with Him! Don’t post on a profile Christian and you have half naked women or men on your page and you have profanity posted as a normal and acceptable portion of the English language. Don’t say I have Jesus in my heart when you will snap in a heartbeat and curse someone out. Don’t say I am a one man or woman anything, if you are running around chasing every skirt or pair of pants you can possibly get to...You see until we get real about who we are it will be extremely hard to be taken seriously on any level, why you may ask?...It is because we are always contradicting ourselves, trying to stay one step ahead of the last image we placed out there, or lie we have told. We are always having to reinvent ourselves continually to try to fit in…There is a God who sits high and sees all we do and knows just who we are and what we do…He knows our heart and the very content of our character, and whether the words we speak are real or not…Get real with Him first for He know you anyway! He can see you and experience you in a way like no one else can…
